Klipsch THX-5000-SUR Surround Speakers (Pair) at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The THX-5000-SUR is a THX Ultra2 Certified surround loudspeaker from Klipsch (Indianapolis, Indiana, USA), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Built on the same engineering foundation as Klipsch professional cinema systems, this speaker pair brings reference-level home theater immersion to demanding 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1-channel installations. Powered by Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST), it combines dual 5.25-inch Cerametallic cone woofers with dual 1-inch titanium-dome compression driver tweeters loaded by 5-inch square 90° x 60° Tractrix Horns, delivering a sensitivity of 96 dB at 2.83V/1m and handling up to 100 watts RMS continuous.

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST)

WDST is Klipsch's no-compromise engineering approach to surround speaker design. Unlike conventional surround designs that force a trade-off between diffuse coverage and pinpoint localization, WDST delivers both simultaneously. The array positions each woofer and tweeter set on an angled baffle facing opposite the other, with tweeters oriented diagonally to minimize interference between their outputs. The result is a deep, enveloping surround sound field normally associated with diffuse-radiating speakers, combined with the precise effect localization characteristic of direct-radiating models. Listeners are fully immersed in the soundstage without sacrificing placement flexibility during installation.

Tractrix Horn-Loaded Tweeters and Cerametallic Woofers

The 5-inch square 90° x 60° Tractrix Horns load each 1-inch titanium-dome compression driver for controlled, low-distortion high-frequency dispersion. These are the identical tweeters used in the THX-6000-LCR and THX-5000-LCR speakers, guaranteeing tonal continuity from the front channels through to the surrounds. The two 5.25-inch Cerametallic cone woofers, cast in aluminium frames with neodymium magnet structures and magnetic shielding, reproduce midrange and bass with exceptional stiffness-to-mass ratios down to 80 Hz. Matching the woofer driver used in the THX-5000-LCR ensures a cohesive, seamless sound field across the entire system.

Professional-Grade Construction and Mounting Flexibility

The sealed MDF enclosure uses dado and rabbet joinery, the same cabinet construction method employed in Klipsch's professional cinema loudspeakers, to maximize rigidity and minimize resonance even in ceiling-suspended installations. The Galaxy Black cabinet with black anodized aluminum fascia integrates cleanly into custom home theater environments. On the rear panel, vertically aligned keyholes and dual 1/4"-20 threaded inserts accept any wall or ceiling mount rated for 20 lbs or more, giving installers broad placement flexibility. Dual binding posts support bi-amping or bi-wiring configurations, and all internal wiring is top-of-the-line to preserve signal purity from amplifier to driver.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR?

The Klipsch THX-5000-SUR is a THX Ultra2 Certified two-way surround loudspeaker sold as a pair, featuring dual 5.25-inch Cerametallic woofers, dual 1-inch titanium-dome tweeters on Tractrix Horns, and a sensitivity of 96 dB at 2.83V/1m. It uses Klipsch's proprietary Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST) to deliver both enveloping surround coverage and precise localization of audio effects. Designed for high-performance 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1-channel home theaters, the THX-5000-SUR draws directly from Klipsch's professional cinema loudspeaker engineering, built in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.

How does the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR compare to the Klipsch THX-5000-LCR?

The THX-5000-SUR and the THX-5000-LCR share the same Cerametallic woofer driver, ensuring tonal matching between the front LCR channels and the surrounds. The THX-5000-LCR is engineered for left, center, and right front-channel use and employs a single Tractrix Horn configuration optimized for forward-facing direct radiation. The THX-5000-SUR is purpose-built for surround duty, using the WDST array with two angled woofer and tweeter sets to produce both diffuse and localized sound from a single enclosure. For competitors, the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR occupies a similar market position to speakers such as the Triad InRoom Gold LCR Surround and JBL Synthesis SCL-4, but distinguishes itself through THX Ultra2 certification and the proprietary WDST dual-horn array.

Can the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR be used in a 7.1-channel system?

Yes, the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR is fully compatible with 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1-channel home theater configurations. Its THX Ultra2 certification covers all of these channel formats, and the WDST design ensures each speaker provides adequate coverage and localization regardless of placement position in a multi-surround layout. For 7.1 setups, two pairs of the THX-5000-SUR can be deployed at the side and rear surround positions for a fully THX-matched surround field.

What is Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST)?

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST) is a proprietary Klipsch surround speaker design that combines two angled woofer and tweeter baffles within a single enclosure, oriented in opposing directions. WDST eliminates the traditional choice between diffuse-radiating and direct-radiating surround designs by delivering both simultaneously. Listeners receive the deep, room-filling surround field of a dipole or bipole design alongside the precise effect localization of a direct-radiating speaker, all from a speaker with significantly more placement flexibility than conventional surround designs.

Where can I buy the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR in Toronto or Canada?

The Klipsch THX-5000-SUR Surround Speakers are available at Vinyl Sound, located in Toronto, Canada. Vinyl Sound is an authorized Klipsch dealer serving customers across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, as well as customers across Canada. Purchasing from an authorized Canadian dealer ensures full manufacturer warranty support and access to Klipsch's certified service network.

What amplifier power does the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR require?

The Klipsch THX-5000-SUR handles up to 100 watts RMS continuous and 400 watts peak, with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. Its 96 dB sensitivity rating means it achieves high output levels from relatively modest amplifier power, making it compatible with a wide range of AV receivers and dedicated multichannel amplifiers. For a THX Ultra2 reference-level system, Klipsch recommends pairing the THX-5000-SUR with an amplifier or AV receiver rated for at least 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms, though the high sensitivity ensures excellent performance with significantly more power on tap.

Can the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR be ceiling mounted?

Yes, the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR supports both wall and ceiling mounting. The rear panel includes vertically aligned keyholes for keyhole-bracket wall installation and dual 1/4"-20 threaded inserts compatible with standard Omni-Mount hardware and any quality wall or ceiling mount rated for 20 lbs or more. The sealed dado and rabbet MDF enclosure maintains structural integrity in suspended ceiling applications, and the compact footprint of 13.75 x 13 x 8.5 inches allows flexible positioning in rooms where wall mounting is not practical.

Does the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR support bi-wiring or bi-amping?

Yes, the Klipsch THX-5000-SUR includes two sets of binding post speaker terminals connected via brass strap jumpers, fully supporting bi-wiring and bi-amping configurations. Bi-amping allows a separate amplifier channel to drive the woofers and tweeters independently, and bi-wiring provides separate cable runs to each section while using a single amplifier channel. Both configurations can improve separation between the high-frequency and low-frequency signal paths for audiophile-grade installations.

Enchanting
Format: Kindle
"Queen of Roses" by Briar Boleyn is a delightful and refreshing reimagining of the classic tale of King Arthur, with a captivating twist that places the spotlight on Morgan, a character who has often been overshadowed in traditional retellings. Boleyn's creative decision to shift the narrative perspective to Morgan breathes new life into the story, offering readers an intriguing and compelling look at the Arthurian world from an entirely different angle. One of the most commendable aspects of this book is its incorporation of Fae elements, which adds an enchanting layer of magic and mystery to the already familiar Arthurian setting. Boleyn skillfully weaves the world of the Fae into the narrative, creating a captivating backdrop against which the events of the story unfold. This addition not only adds depth to the world-building but also provides ample opportunities for twists and turns that keep readers thoroughly engrossed. However, while the book boasts numerous strengths, it does have one noticeable flaw: the characterization of Morgan. While it is reasonable to create a flawed and complex protagonist, it appears that at times, Morgan's character becomes overly difficult and hard to relate to. Her persistently negative perception of one of the main male characters, who is a potential love interest, despite his efforts to support and assist her, may come across as somewhat irrational and could test the patience of some readers. Striking a balance between a strong, independent character and one who can recognize genuine support and affection could have enhanced the overall reader experience. Nonetheless, the allure of "Queen of Roses" lies in its innovative approach to the Arthurian legend and its skillful blending of fantasy elements into a familiar narrative. Boleyn's evocative prose draws readers into a world where magic, destiny, and fate entwine, leaving us eager to uncover the mysteries that unfold within the pages. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

An action-packed dark romantasy
Format: Kindle
I loved this book! Queen of Roses is an Arthurian-inspired dark romantasy that is the first book in the Blood of Fae series. The story follows Morgan, the princess of Camelot who is rumored to be part fae. Fueled by prejudiced hatred and a mistrust of fae blood, Morgan’s abusive father strips her of her birthright and hands it to her half-brother, Arthur. Instead of becoming queen, Morgan is commanded to join the temple of the goddesses when she comes of age. However, Arthur turns into a psychopathic, power-hungry, fae-hating king as he ages. He develops malevolent plans and commands Morgan to find an ancient weapon with legendary power. Although Morgan is wary of Arthur’s intentions, she embraces the opportunity to go on a journey and potentially change her fate. The story picks up from there and we follow Morgan on her quest to find the ancient relic. It’s full of high stakes adventure, mystery, tension, banter, forced proximity, hidden magic, self discovery, and betrayal. This first installment of the series intricately develops the world building and character development. There’s little romance in this book, but it is evident that it is a slow burn that will continue to develop throughout the remainder of the series. Overall, I loved the world building, the epic fantasy, Morgan’s journey of self discovery, and all of the twists and turns that set the stage for the future installments. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Arthurian Fae Quest…say less.
Format: Kindle
A fae centered Arthurian tale unlike any I’ve read so far. The author did a great job at descriptive world building, with scenes easily playing out in my minds eye. There was plenty of action, suspense, and even a touch of horror. An enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, a quest, with plot twist and turns aplenty. There was a love triangle, which I’m not usually a fan of but, it played out well in this story line. The FMC, Morgan Pendragon, was so blatantly naïve, yet I typically expect as much in a ‘book one’ of a series, especially one that features a fairly sheltered princess. I was happy to read that in spite of this, she still showed a strong sense of morals, fire, and spine. Now our MMC? Kairos Draven, aka Void’s Edge. Oh, how I’m a sucker for a smoking’ hot grumpy warrior alpha with a witty mouth, and a strong sense of “touch her and die” attitude, so you know who held all my cards. That ending? Just made me swoon all the harder. Now add a battlecat that rivals the size of a horse…and well Ms. Briar Boleyn you have well and truly stolen my heart. I’m excited to see where the story goes from here, and follow along to see more of the characters growth. I went into this story fairly blind, and I think I enjoyed it all the more because of it. Once the story got going, it had me in an absolute chokehold and it was difficult to put down.

Not a bad start
Format: Kindle
3 stars Thank you Netgalley and Briar Boleyn for the ARC! A camelot/king Arthur retelling with fae. I was hooked by the idea of this book immediately and was eager to jump into this world. • slow burn • enemies to lovers • who did this to you Morgan Pendragon watched her mother die by her father's hand when she was just eight years old, hiding under the bed. Morgan is believed to have the tainted blood of the fae in her veins and is cast aside so that her fathers illegitimate son, Arthur, can become the king. She's seen his cruel treatment of the fae firsthand, so when he sends her on a journey to find a fae weapon she seizes the opportunity to do more with her life. Along the way, she finds more than she could have imagined. I don't know a whole lot about King Arthur and Camelot but I had a lot of fun with this story! The plot has some similar tropes to popular romantasy books (From blood and ash) but there's enough originality here that it doesn't feel like I'm reading a copy. I liked how the fae were different in appearance than what is typical in most fantasy books I've read. In this book they have blue hair, violet skin and a wide range of other characteristics. I thought that the world building was easy to follow and I could easily immerse myself into this world. After reading the blurb I kept wondering when she was going to go on the journey to find Excalibur and it doesn't happen until around the 45% mark. The story is a bit slow at times but starts to pick up once they begin their journey to find Excalibur. The John Wick style Inn was a fun concept that I enjoyed reading about. There are a lot of similarities to this and FBAA and I would have liked to have it be a little more different, but I'm hoping book two will have the story turn into something of its own. Overall I enjoyed reading this story and I'm looking forward to reading book two especially after that ending.
