Quinta das Bágeiras is one of Portugal's top producers, located in the Bairrada region. Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno and his son Frederico produce a wide range of sparkling, white and red wine, alongside top-notch brandy.
Mario Sergio is also a master of distillation. He makes an aguardente bagaceira very similar to Grappa and an aguardente vinica very similar to brandy/cognac. For this aguardente vinica he uses predominantly Baga grapes from designated vineyards that are trained specifically for the production of aguardente. Distillation takes place in a Charentais copper alembic still, as used in the region of Cognac, and the spirit is then aged in new barrels for about 10 years. This is a great brandy for Cognac and Armagnac lovers.
