Robin Hoods Bay – RavenscarThis circular coastal route follows the old railway line from RHB to Ravenscar and the return journey along the Cleveland Way back to RHB. This is a 7 mile (11. 2km) route which starts from the main carpark at the top of RH Bay (not the smaller carpark further down the hill opposite the Victoria Hotel) we meet at the carpark at 09. 45am for a 10am start, this walk should normally take about 4 hours duration. This is a 7 mile (11.2km) route which starts from the main carpark at the top of RH Bay (not the smaller carpark further down the hill opposite the Victoria Hotel) we meet at the carpark at 09.45am for a 10am start, this walk should normally take about 4 hours duration.
We leave the carpark and head off towards the old railway line now a popular cycling and walking track. Passing through Middlewood Farm we keep to the trail and head for the National Trust centre at Ravenscar about 3.5 miles of easy walking. If the centre is open refreshments are available here. We then make our way back to Robin Hoods Bay along the Cleveland Way. There are some spectacular views along this coastal section as we see evidence of the old Alum mines just to the north of Ravenscar. From this point we walk along the cliff top eventually reaching Boggle Hole and a short steep ascent up from the Youth Hostel back to the cliff top. From here you can see the picturesque setting of the Bay ahead as we make our way down to the shoreline and the finish of the popular Coast to Coast Walk. We then make our way back up the steep hill out of the Bay and return to the carpark at the top.
In order for you to enjoy and take full advantage of the events on offer it is imperative that you look after yourself and turn up with the appropriate kit. We highly recommend suitable walking shoes/boots, proper outdoor clothing for the time of year and a reasonable level of walking fitness. Unfortunately young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
