Turning Point Pen Co. collaborated with well-known artist Joanne Rafferty to design a fine writing instrument inspired by one of her paintings, which represents her style and ideology.

Joanne Miller Rafferty has enjoyed a career in fine art that spans over 40 years. She’s been listed in Who’s Who in American Art: 2000 Outstanding Artists and Designers of the 20th Century, and she’s had the honor of her work appearing in thousands of Corporate, Professional, and Private Collections around the world as well as in numerous publications and TV shows like The Sopranos and Friends.

Rafferty holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Daemen University and a Permanent Certification in Art Education from The State University of New York. Through her work and her life, she wants to encourage others to “Enjoy life; we are all just walking each other home.”

The Horizon Bliss painting is a semi-abstract work that “Challenges traditional boundaries,” and “takes the viewer on a journey,” in the words of Joanne Rafferty. She adds that she believes this piece creates a place for contemplation that inspires viewers to “dwell in possibility... search for [their] story from within… [and] help them discover a great deal about their own world.” Rafferty’s work focuses on landscapes, with a special focus on the horizon. She says, “A new horizon can give you happiness, peace, and a sense of freedom.”

The Horizon Bliss limited edition fountain pen takes its inspiration directly from Joanne Rafferty’s painting. Each piece of the pen (with the exception of the 18k gold Jowo nib) is custom designed and hand-made by TPPC artisans here in the US. Each pen passes through the hands of 6 top-tier American artisans before it makes it into your hands.

The custom cast rare resins are meticulously poured to represent the colors that make up the semi-abstract landscape of the painting from shades of dark blues & greens on the left to light tans, greens, and yellows on the right. Subtle streaks of “sunset” orange can be seen peeking out around the cap-body connection; a subtle hint to what’s inside. The pen is uncapped to reveal a vibrant grip section cast in multiple hues of that same orange, streaking and swirling together like the plasma of the sun.

The custom designed precious metal overlay and clip are hand-cast in .925 sterling silver. These represent the tactile shapes and materials in the painting: layers of material, shapes that stand proud of the canvas, and thick paints that create depth & texture. The overlay was designed in a semi-solid fashion, where the colors of the resin can be seen through parts of the overlay. It also features a rhodium plated 18k gold nib and is limited to 33 pieces.
