I did this painting during a time when TRUST was a big big issue in my life. Finding the Aesop Fable The Ass in the Lion's Skin, I knew I had to paint it. The Ass dresses up in the Lion's Skin and goes around fooling all the animals. The Fox, who can't be fooled, says to him "You don't fool me with your bray." Clothing can disguise a man, but his words will give him away. That pretty much sums up our political situation, right? I think a lot of us are asking "Who can we trust?" There are so many lion suits being worn today. 38"x50", acrylic on paper. The original has sold.
