The Blackmagic Design Spares - Camera URSA Mini Pro G2 - PCB USB-C is the dedicated interface board that houses the high-speed USB-C expansion port found on the side of the URSA Mini Pro G2. This board is a critical component for modern workflows, as it enables direct recording to external SSDs and the use of the Blackmagic URSA Focus and Zoom Demands.

High-Bandwidth Data Path

Unlike standard USB ports on a computer, this PCB is engineered to handle the massive data sustained rates of Blackmagic RAW at high frame rates.

  • USB 3.1 Gen 1/2 Support: Provides the 5Gb/s or 10Gb/s (depending on the internal controller's negotiation) required for recording 4.6K G2 footage directly to external media.

  • Power Delivery: Manages the 5V power output required to spin up external bus-powered SSDs.

  • Expansion Logic: Acts as the communication bridge for the URSA’s side-car accessories, translating USB commands into the camera's internal bus language.

Why You Might Need a Replacement

The USB-C port is one of the most vulnerable physical points on the URSA Mini Pro G2 because it is frequently used with external cables that can be yanked or snagged.

  • Physical Port Damage: The internal "tongue" of the USB-C port is fragile. If a cable is inserted forcefully or bumped sideways, the pins can bend or snap, leading to "Disk Not Found" errors.

  • Intermittent Connection: If the camera frequently stops recording or "drops" the external drive when the cable is wiggled, the solder joints connecting the port to the PCB have likely developed micro-fractures.

  • Electrical Surge: Using poor-quality USB-C cables or faulty SSD enclosures can cause an electrical short that "blows" the surface-mount fuses on this specific PCB.

  • Port Wear: After hundreds of plug/unplug cycles, the mechanical "click" of the USB-C port can wear out, causing cables to fall out during operation.

Key Features

  • Genuine OEM Part: Designed to fit the specific internal mounting standoffs of the G2 chassis.

  • Isolated Design: Being a separate PCB means you don't have to replace the expensive Main Board just because a physical connector is broken.

  • Shielded Construction: Engineered to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) from affecting the camera's sensitive audio or video circuitry.

Technical Installation Note

Replacing the USB-C PCB requires opening the side panel of the URSA Mini Pro G2. This is a delicate procedure:

  • Ribbon Cable Caution: The PCB connects to the Main Board via a fine-pitch ribbon cable. Ensure the locking tab on the connector is fully raised before removing the cable to avoid tearing the contacts.

  • Gasket Alignment: Ensure the rubber weather-sealing gasket around the USB-C port is perfectly seated before closing the chassis. If it's pinched, moisture can enter the camera body.

  • Cable Strain Relief: Once the new board is installed, it is highly recommended to use a "cable protector" or "clamp" (like those from SmallRig or Tilta) to prevent future physical stress on the new port.

  • Testing: After installation, test the port with both a high-speed SSD and an URSA Demand (if available) to ensure both data and power delivery are functioning correctly.

Expert Tip: Before ordering this spare, try a different, high-quality USB-C cable (rated for 10Gb/s or higher). Many "failures" are actually just worn-out cables rather than a faulty internal PCB!

Works as expected — good 4K signal and fast Ethernet
This Amazon Basics USB-C hub works exactly as it should. The HDMI connection gives a clean 4K signal to my TV, and the wired Ethernet connection is stable. I’m getting around 900 Mbps through the cable, which is very good for my setup. Power delivery also works normally. Overall, a simple and reliable hub that does the job well.

Fairly effective.
While I didn't bother reading instructions, it functioned as I intuitively thought with some slight troubleshooting. For example, using the correct USB-C for power or data. Connections to support an external monitor needs power toggling occasionally. Patience paid off. Expected a subpar Chinese knock-off (with questionable safety standards). But works very well, but can get warm.

Lots of great uses for this.
This hub is essential for a Quest or other virtual reality headset if you want to stream HDMI video to it. It allows you to hook up the HDMI source AND a power supply to feed to the headset to prevent the battery from running down.
