Famous for their use in Hawaiian leis, frangipanis are prized for their exotic blooms, glossy foliage, and sweet perfume. In the UK they are best grown as conservatory, greenhouse, or houseplants, enjoying a warm sunny position throughout the growing season.
Plant Care
Light: Loves bright light and direct sun. A south-facing window, conservatory, or greenhouse is ideal. More sun equals better flowering.
Watering: Water thoroughly when actively growing, allowing the compost to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy when leaves may naturally drop.
Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures above 15°C. Protect from temperatures below 10°C and keep frost-free at all times.
Potting: Use a free-draining mix. Our A Sandy Loam potting mix works particularly well, providing excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture for healthy growth.
Hot Tips: Frangipanis naturally enter dormancy during winter and may lose all their leaves—this is completely normal. Once warmth and light levels increase in spring, new growth will emerge. Seed-grown plants produce unique flower colours, making every plant a surprise.
Pet Friendly: No. Plumeria contains a milky sap that can cause irritation if ingested by pets or humans.
