The only neighborhood-by-neighborhood guide to New York City's largest borough, from the award-winning author of The New York Nobody Knows

Bill Helmreich walked every block of New York City--some six-thousand miles--to write the award-winning The New York Nobody Knows. Later, he re-walked most of Queens--1,012 miles in all--to create this one-of-a-kind walking guide to the city's largest borough, from hauntingly beautiful parks to hidden parts of Flushing's Chinese community. Drawing on hundreds of conversations he had with residents during his block-by-block journey through this fascinating, diverse, and underexplored borough, Helmreich highlights hundreds of facts and points of interest that you won't find in any other guide.

In Bellerose, you'll explore a museum filled with soul-searing artwork created by people with mental illness. In Douglaston, you'll gaze up in awe at the city's tallest tree. In Corona, you'll discover the former synagogue where Madonna lived when she first came to New York. In St. Albans, you'll see the former homes of jazz greats, including Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday. In Woodhaven, you'll walk a block where recent immigrants from Mexico, Guyana, and China all proudly fly the American flag. And much, much more.

An unforgettably vivid chronicle of today's Queens, the book can be enjoyed without ever leaving home--but it's almost guaranteed to inspire you to get out and explore this captivating borough.
  • Covers every one of Queens's neighborhoods, providing a colorful portrait of their most interesting, unusual, and unfamiliar people, places, and things
  • Each neighborhood section features a brief overview and history; a detailed, user-friendly map keyed to the text; photographs; and a lively guided walking tour
  • Draws on the author's 1,012-mile walk through every Queens neighborhood
  • Includes insights from conversations with hundreds of residents

Great lightweight beach blanket
Color: Blue, Size: 7x7 FT (1~3 person)
This is a great beach blanket, very well designed. Really lightweight, durable, quick drying, easy to use, packs very small. Stakes are included, but we never use them since the corner pockets filled with sand are sufficient to hold the blanket in place. Folding instructions are also provided, but you can just stuff quickly the blanket into the attached pouch, and the overall fine wrinkles are not an issue -- the blanket still looks very nice. The blanket is very thin, so there's no extra "padding" (this is what keeps it super lightweight and quick drying), but it works great on soft sand, so it's perfect for our use. (This is the first one I've bought, but we've used my son's for years.)

We travel with it every vacation
Color: Blue, Size: 7x7 FT (1~3 person)
Large blanket that packs small, is lightweight, sand proof, anchors easy with provided stakes and pockets for sand to weigh down- it stays put even in the strongest winds. Have taken to South Africa and Hawaii- everyone wants it!! Washes so easily.

Festival Must Have
Color: Green, Size: 7x7 FT (1~3 person)
Enough said. It was quick, easy, big and awesome! The 3 person fit 5 of us. It’s light, and folds up small. We used it on wet grass and didn’t get wet! It was awesome. Buying extras for presents.

easy to setup and clean
Color: Blue, Size: 9x7 FT (1~5 person)
We use this constantly for kids sports. I do wish I would have got the smaller size because it's really big. I love the hooks that hold it in the ground. There's also pockets to use sand to weight it down. I was expecting the material to be a little different, it feels like a windbreaker, but it cleans really nicely.

Perfect!
Color: Blue, Size: 9x10 FT (1~8 person), Color: Blue, Size: 9x10 FT (1~8 person)
First off, this thing is HUGE! I love that the side pockets fill with sand to keep from flying away and how easy it is to stuff back in and put away.. Its definitley machine wash safe (use cool water to prevent the material from getting messed up) and it doesn't get that wet towel smell if being used multiple times during a trip.. It's been camping and beaching LOL.. Would buy again when this one needs to be replaced.
