The piece of limestone matrix measures 153 mm (6 inches) across and contains one complete fossil ammonite, which measures 71 mm (2.8 inches) across, which is a good size for this species. The matrix is original and has been shaped for display. The ammonite is well preserved and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the shell, which display some nice very subtle iridescence with bronzy colours appearing as the angle the fossil is viewed from changes.
The fossil weighs 520 grams. These ammonites make wonderful display items and are real conversation starters.
Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
