This plan is your guide to making a simply beautiful table. This everyday table is modeled on Julia Child’s original kitchen table. Purchased in Norway in 1960, it’s the farm table at which Julia and her husband Paul ate most of their meals. It is now on display at the Smithsonian where it so fascinated Mario Rodriguez that he created this plan for reproducing a similar version.

Construction is unusual – and excellent. Dispensing with typical leg-to-apron joinery, the table has shouldered brindle joints that lock the legs to a pair of long aprons to eliminate racking. Three dovetailed cross rails link the apron, along with the H-stretcher system, to make it rock solid.

Tips for short-bed lathes, jigs, and putting it all together. Follow this detailed plan to complete all the steps for turning the legs on a lathe, cutting the stopped dovetail sockets in the aprons, fitting the stretchers, assembling the undercarriage, and applying the final finish.

This simple table has a sophistication all its own! Mario built his farm table from soft maple - wood that is hard enough to survive daily use, but with a rosier, more attractive color than hard maple. Get your plan today and start thinking about the wood you’ll choose for this robust but unpretentious table.

Good not great
Format: Paperback
Good advice on asking, could be a bit more content on how to actually ask. Most examples seemed to be more made up than practical. Still good book.

Ask and Ye Shall Receive...
Format: Paperback
The writing and the approach in the book are not earth shattering. In fact, I wish there was a little more meat or pizzaz in the content. So, why the recommendation? Simple - the content at its core is incredibly powerful - and we all need the reminder. Our gentieel approach to communications and emotional interaction has left us forgetting to ASK for things. We expect the world to be mind readers, and get upset, frustrated or depressed when we don't get what we want. Of course, since we never actually ASKED for what we wanted, we rely on guesswork and luck to achieve our dreams and goals. The genie in the lamp could grant wishes, but those wishes needed to be spoken by Aladdin. Similarly, we are all in a position to achieve our goals and dreams, but they must be spoken. Even within ourselves, we cannot harness our own power of desire and subconscious until we solidify the desire by asking for it. An absolute must read - even if the writing style is a bit flat - the content is NOT.

Great book, however...
Format: Paperback
There are many great things about this book and very useful advice and information, however it is very repetitive and some of the excerpts are a bit long and boring. I still recommend it, just be warned.
