The MCI's 150 watt motor, while powerful, is very quiet at 73 decibels, so it won't jolt your family out of bed in the morning. The stepless grind adjustment on the MCI means that each turn of the dial changes your grind setting by just a tiny fraction to give you the key building block for the "God Shot" of espresso. The chrome plated doserless chute dispenses espresso directly into your portafilter for less waste. NSF-Certified to Std 8 for food safety.

Step-less Micrometric Grind Adjustment

While the difference in fineness is small, there is still a gap in which your perfect shot of espresso could reside. With step-less (or micro-metric) adjustment, there are no leaps from setting to setting. Simply turn the micro-metric adjustment knob, and your Nuova MCI will change the grind setting very slowly and in tiny increments. For this reason, the Nuova Simonelli is best used as strictly an espresso grinder, although it can grind from Turkish to French Press.

To tackle these demands, the MCI employs 50 mm hardened steel grinding burrs. Theses burrs are sharp and durable and can withstand heavy use. The engineers at Nuova Simonelli balance and calibrate the burr plates with incredible precision. The top burr is mounted to the metal cover plate at the top of the grinder. The bottom burr is directly fixed to the motor drive shaft and is adjusted with the step-less knob at the top left of the unit.

Heavy-Duty Construction

The body of the Nuova Simonelli MCI grinder is a solid piece of cast metal that has been treated to resist corrosion. The metal is then power-coated and baked to give the MCI a beautiful, glossy black finish. Beneath the durable, and heavy, metal exterior lies the heart of the beast: a 150 Watt direct drive motor. It spins at about 1400 RPM to deliver about 1 gram per second of perfect espresso powder. The bean hopper on top is easily lifted off even with coffee beans still inside. It has a sliding guard on the bottom to prevent the beans from falling out. Even though the hopper will hold a full pound of beans, it remains compact to keep the overall height of the Nuova Simonelli MCI under 12 and a half inches.
