Mary Anna Sibell Elizabeth Marten, OBE (1929–2010) was an English aristocrat and landowner who made legal history in the Crichel Down affair.

She was born Mary Anna Sibell Elizabeth Sturt on 12 September 1929 at Moor Critchel, the daughter of Napier Sturt, 3rd Baron Alington and Lady Mary Sibell Ashley-Cooper, daughter of the 9th Earl of Shaftesbury, sometime Lord Steward to the Household of George V & Queen Mary, by his wife Lady Constance Sibell Grosvenor (d 1957), a great friend of Queen Mary, daughter of Earl Grosvenor, and sister of Hugh Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster. She was god-daughter to Queen Elizabeth (later The Queen Mother), and in 1953 her son Napier was a page at the Coronation of Elizabeth II.

After joining the Brownies alongside Princess Margaret, Mary Anna went to school in Lancaster Gate and later attended Cheltenham Ladies' College. Upon the death of her father, Baron Alington in active service in the RAF in 1940, Mary Anna inherited the Crichel House Estate in Dorset. In 1948 she went up to Somerville College, Oxford, to read agriculture, but she did not finish her degree.

Mary Anna and her husband, Lt.-Cdr. George (Toby) Gosselin Marten, L.V.O. D.S.C., Royal Navy, (1918 - 1997), son of Vice-Admiral Sir Francis Arthur Marten, K.B.E., C.B., C.M.G., C.V.O., were married on 25 November 1949 at Holy Trinity Brompton. He was an equerry to George VI, and the marriage was attended by George VI, Queen Elizabeth (Mary Anna's godmother), Princess Margaret, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duchess of Kent, the Earl and Countess of Athlone.

The Martens had a son, Napier, and five daughters.

Crichel Down affair
Part of the Alington family's Crichel Down estate had been compulsorily purchased by the Government in 1938 for military use, and the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill later gave an undertaking that when the Government no longer needed the land for the purpose for which it had been requisitioned, the land would be sold back to the original owners. When this did not happen, Mary Anna and her husband took on the Government, and eventually won back their land, following the resignation over the issue by the relevant Minister. The episode became known as The Crichel Down affair, a term still used in British legislation. The estate was sold after her death.

Another great product from Cremo!
Style: Vintage Suede, Size: 5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I find myself buying from this brand frequently. It started with the body wash, then a shaving razor and now this product. Everything i buy from Cremo is absolutely miles ahead of national brands. When I saw this ant it was available in Vintage Suede scent, I had to buy it. Again, I was blown away by the quality of this product. It provides a rich, luxurious lather that cleans all of your troubles away. It's smooth and feels good. This has changed my morning shower into Shower 2.0. I also love that this is a minority owned business. I know that when I buy from them, the money goes to support real people, not some corporate fat-cat. Anyway, every Cremo product I have tried so far has been nothing short of amazing, and this is no exception. I will continue looking for more of their products I dont know about and trying those as well. Thanks Cremo! You knocked it off of the reservation again with this product!

Scrubby
Style: Italian Bergamot, Size: 5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I love that the pieces in it feel almost like it's exfoliating. It lathers well, and my skin feels clean after. The smell doesn't cling or feel cheap, it's a well rounded shuttle fragrance. Although my skin loves it, my daughter says her skin gets aittle dried out but she puts lotion in and it's fine. I have been buying this for months now, and encourage you to give this a try. Would also make a great addition to a gift basket.

A nice bar of soap
Style: Palo Santo, Size: 5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I originally picked this up because I’m a big fan of the bourbon and oak scent, and this didn’t disappoint. It smells great without being overpowering, and it sticks around just enough without feeling like cologne. The exfoliating texture is solid too. It actually works without being too rough. It also lasts a long time, which was a nice bonus.

Amazing Lather
Style: Italian Bergamot, Size: 5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
This product produces a silky smooth foamy lather effortlessly without melting-down the bar too rapidly. I think it's somewhat unique in this way. Smell is there but not overly aggressive, not overly drying either but effectively cuts body oils. Will buy again again for sure.
