"When Baba Segi woke up with a bellyache for the sixth day in a row, he knew it was time to do something drastic about his fourth wife's childlessness."

For Baba Segi, his collection of wives and gaggle of children are the symbol of prosperity, success and a validation of his manhood. Everything runs smoothly in the patriarchal home, until wife number four intrudes on their cozy family arrangement. Baba's three wives hate Bolanle from the start; she doesn't seem to know her place-at the bottom of the totem pole. And, to top it all, she wants to teach them to read But Bolanle's arrival threatens to do more than simply ruffle feathers. Unwittingly, she's about to expose the wives' long-guarded secret-and they are not going to sit idly by and let her ruin what they've worked so hard to protect.

Longlisted for the Orange Prize, The Secret Lives of Four Wives is Lola Shoneyin's fabulous and entertaining debut novel that brings your students into the little known world of polygamy in modern-day Nigeria.

"Using alternating narration, Shoneyin quickly gains the readers interest in this warts-and-all depiction of a culture that will be unfamiliar to many. Each wife finds her own way to assert her power and desire within the confines of a patriarchal system; in some cases, with disastrous consequences. Book clubs and readers in general interested in exploring dynamic characters and events, and who can tolerate some sex and violence, will find this a strong choice."-Library Journal

Good History Book
Format: Kindle
Twenty years that change history and the Americas. Even though the civil war ended slavery at a humongous cost, it it failed to bring social justice a d civil rights to the population of the country. It was not until 1920 that women were granted voting rights. And some problems and divisions persist nowdays.

interesting and fresh perspective on the American civil war
Format: Kindle
Fresh perspective on the well known American Civil War. I appreciate Dr Taylor’s emphasis on the preservation of slavery over the states’ rights argument for why the American Civil War was fought.

Top-tier engine protection that runs quiet and smooth
Size: 5 Quarts
I’ve used Castrol EDGE in a couple of our vehicles and always come back to it for consistent performance. It extends the time between oil changes and holds up well under both daily driving and highway mileage. We don't "extend the time" though. It's changed, on the dot, every time. The consistency and quality of the oil's condition at change, though, is easily able to be seen that it would go for much longer. Engine runs quieter, and I’ve noticed better fuel efficiency over time compared to conventional oil. Whether that's how attentively I drive and watch the mileage meter on the dash or the oil - is up for debate ;) It doesn’t burn off as quickly either, which is great if you’re keeping an eye on long-term engine health. The bottle design pours cleanly with a smart spout, which saves unnecessary messes in the garage. Pros: Strong wear protection and long-lasting Improves engine quietness Easy-pour design Tip: Use it with a high-quality oil filter for maximum benefit don’t skimp on either part and you'll be golden.
