"Now, thanks to Hilsum's deeply reported and passionately written book, Marie Colvin] has the full accounting that she deserves." --Joshua Hammer, The New York Times

The inspiring and devastating biography of Marie Colvin, the foremost war reporter of her generation, who was killed in Syria in 2012, and whose life story also forms the basis of the feature film A Private War, starring Rosamund Pike as Colvin.

When Marie Colvin was killed in an artillery attack in Homs, Syria, in 2012, at age fifty-six, the world lost a fearless and iconoclastic war correspondent who covered the most significant global calamities of her lifetime. In Extremis, written by her fellow reporter Lindsey Hilsum, is a thrilling investigation into Colvin's epic life and tragic death based on exclusive access to her intimate diaries from age thirteen to her death, interviews with people from every corner of her life, and impeccable research.

After growing up in a middle-class Catholic family on Long Island, Colvin studied with the legendary journalist John Hersey at Yale, and eventually started working for The Sunday Times of London, where she gained a reputation for bravery and compassion as she told the stories of victims of the major conflicts of our time. She lost sight in one eye while in Sri Lanka covering the civil war, interviewed Gaddafi and Arafat many times, and repeatedly risked her life covering conflicts in Chechnya, East Timor, Kosovo, and the Middle East. Colvin lived her personal life in extremis, too: bold, driven, and complex, she was married twice, took many lovers, drank and smoked, and rejected society's expectations for women. Despite PTSD, she refused to give up reporting. Like her hero Martha Gellhorn, Colvin was committed to bearing witness to the horrifying truths of war, and to shining a light on the profound suffering of ordinary people caught in the midst of conflict.

Lindsey Hilsum's In Extremis is a devastating and revelatory biography of one of the greatest war correspondents of her generation.

Wow that light color ring is annoying
There is no way to turn this color light off. I don't even know why it has to have a light at all. I suppose it is to tell you it has power. But the light could have been something that momentarily turns on and then off as you place the phone on. I'm a DIY'er and I'm going to find a way to take this apart and disable the light. I'll report back if I'm successful. The good news is that this mount is identical to another one I have except for the magnet charging section. I'm talking it is identical down to the knobs and metal arm so it's generic in that sense. They only changed out the magnetic section. This type of mount holds well to the screen. The charging speed seemed adequate. Not terribly fast but not slow. Wirelessly charging is always slower than plugged in. The supplied USB cable is braided and feels like quality. See attached picture. This mount is not something you'll necessarily want to use every time you drive. Therefore the color ring is annoying.

SLEEK EXTENDABLE SCREEN MOUNT
HIGH SPEED TESLA MAGSAFE POWER i picked this up for my Model 3 to see if the 25W Qi2.2 charging actually lives up to the hype during my daily work week. ✨ The CNC aluminum build is top notch and feels much more robust than the flimsy plastic mounts i have tested. It's a piece of cake to clamp onto the corner of the Tesla screen and the metal arm matches the interior aesthetics perfectly. The magnetic hold is strong enough to keep my phone secure even when i am taking sharp turns thru my weekend adventures. ✨ Performance is where this thing shines because it actually delivers the 25W speeds without overheating. The built in cooling fan is a smart design choice that keeps the temperature down during long drives. i can hear the fan if the music is off but it's barely noticeable and definitely worth it for the consistent charging speed. ✨ The RGB lighting adds a subtle glow that makes it easy to find the mount in the dark without being distracting. Having the extendable arm is a big benefit for finding the perfect line of sight without blocking the main touchscreen. It's clearly a well thought out solution for any Tesla owner who wants a professional grade charging setup. THE VERDICT This is a exceptional piece of hardware that delivers real world results for high speed charging. The combination of active cooling and a sturdy metal build makes it a first class addition to my car. 'As a 35 year veteran of the computer technology industry, I offer informed and experienced perspectives in my product reviews.' I will update this review if anything changes within 1 year. ★★★★★ (5 Stars): A 5 star rating indicates the product meets my expectations for its purpose.

Works great. Perfect position
Grip and charging are great. I like the position because it doesn't block my view or the vents

Great design. Love it.
I have been using this charger for several months now. I think the design is fantastic. I've seen other reviews which question the reliability of it. My experience has been the opposite. I have a folding phone so it's not light. The connection to the dash has remained intact without fail. I am careful when removing the phone. I don't just yank it off. It charges as it should. The magnetic force is what I expected. Holds my phone with no issues or concerns it could fail and drop the phone. It's super convenient to have this integrated design. My dash is already occupied with a portable android auto unit. My 4Runner is older and did not have that feature. Again, this is plastic. Handle it with some care and I don't see anyone having issues with breaking. It has worked out great for me. Recommend.

Great mount / Terrible charge rate
Love the mount. Easy to install and with a small piece of double sided tape under the top edge, it’s very secure… The magnetic mount is strong enough to hold an iPhone max (at least mine). The charging ability is where it falls short *BAD! It will charge but, barely.. If you’re using maps, making calls, etc.. the phone continues to drain at an alarming rate…
