  • Photography has always depended on the extraction and exploitation of so-called natural raw materials. Having started out using copper, coal, silver, and paper—the raw materials of analogue image production in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries—photography now relies, in the age of the smartphone, on rare earths and metals like coltan, cobalt, and europium
  • The exhibition this book accompanies focuses on the history of key raw materials utilised in photography and establishes a connection between the history of their extraction, their disposal, and climate change
  • Looking at historical and contemporary works, it tells the story of photography as a history of industrial production and demonstrates that the medium is deeply implicated in human-induced changes to nature
  • The exhibition shows contemporary works by a range of photographers and artists, including Ignacio Acosta, Lisa Barnard, F&D Cartier, Susanne Kriemann, Mary Mattingly, Daphné Nan Le Sergent, Lisa Rave, Alison Rossiter, Metabolic Studio’s Optics Division, Robert Smithson, Simon Starling, Anaïs Tondeur, James Welling, Noa Yafe and Tobias Zielony, along with historical works by Eduard Christian Arning, Hermann Biow, Oscar and Theodor Hofmeister, Jürgen Friedrich Mahrt, Hermann Reichling, and others, and historical material from the Agfa Foto-Historama in Leverkusen, the Eastman Kodak Archive in Rochester and the FOMU Photo Museum in Antwerp as well as mineral samples collected by Alexander von Humboldt from the collection of the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin

Asurion is a good investment
Bought an expensive gaming router 46 months ago. Just stopped working, had 2 months left on my insurance, they couldn't fix it and gave me a refund. Bought a similar router with another 4 years if insurance with Asurion and I couldn't be happier. All this in 1 weeks time. They are great

Surprisingly great service!
Surprisingly great service. I just didn’t expect my claim to be handled so efficiently. Replaced the purchase price of my printer that was 3 years into a 4 year protection plan.

Works, but reimbursement for damaged items come via Amazon Gift Card, not Cash
Just confirming that this protection plan actually works. Asurion first told me that they'd try and repair my item. Likely, they couldn't find someone to repair the type of item I bought (KVM), so they offered payment (original cost of the item) via Amazon Gift Card. Giving 4 out of 5 stars -> 4 instead of 5 because Amazon Gift Card isn't Cash. Cash is always better.

When Acer's Warranty Policy left my high and dry, Asurion Protection came to the rescue
My Acer Monitor was damaged during a brownout due to a lightning strike close to my house; Acer Customer Support told me that their warranty did not cover this sort of damage but luckily for me, Asurion Protection did. I simply mailed them the item for repairs with their shipping label, and once they realized that the item was damaged beyond repair, they emailed me an Amazon Gift Card Code with the amount spent on the monitor; I'm extremely happy that I bought their protection because without it, I would have had to pay the price of a new monitor to get my PC Setup back into commission. Many Thanks, Asurion Protection
