During the Summer months you can use outside with the solar panel.  During the Winter, or for use inside, switch over to the battery pack. 

When using in solar mode please make sure the solar panel gets good direct sunlight.  In winter time we recommend using with normal batteries.  When used in the solar mode they will automatically light up at dusk with a lovely warm glow (automatically turning on at dusk and off 6 hours later).  If you are using in battery mode, the dedicated battery pack has a built-in timer (on 6 hours/off 18 hours).
