The HPE PM6 3.84 TB SAS Read Intensive (RI) SSD is a purpose-built, enterprise-grade storage solution designed to accelerate data-center workloads that rely on fast, reliable reads. Engineered for read-dominant environments, this 2.5-inch internal drive delivers high IOPS, low latency, and dependable endurance to support database caching, boot drives, web servers, social media platforms, and other read-intensive operations. Built with a focus on efficiency and reliability, the PM6 RI SSD helps organizations optimize performance per watt, reduce operational costs, and scale storage capacity without sacrificing speed or resilience.

  • High performance for read-heavy workloads: Designed to deliver outstanding IOPS and consistently low latency, enabling rapid data access for caching layers, OS boot environments, and read-forward web services. This makes it an excellent choice for improving application responsiveness and user experience in busy data-center deployments.
  • Read Intensive durability and reliability: Optimized for sustained reads with enterprise-grade reliability, strong error detection, and robust data integrity features. The drive is built to endure the rigors of 24/7 operation in demanding server and storage environments while maintaining steady throughput.
  • SAS interface for fast, scalable connectivity: Equipped with a high-speed SAS 24 Gb/s interface to support rapid data transfer between servers, storage arrays, and backplanes. The PM6 RI SSD benefits from efficient data paths and compatibility with a range of SAS-enabled systems, helping to simplify upgrades and expansions.
  • 2.5-inch form factor for flexible deployment: A standard 2.5-inch internal drive that slides into most HP servers, storage enclosures, and backplanes, enabling easy integration into existing infrastructure and minimizing cabling complexity.
  • Energy-efficient operation and total cost of ownership advantages: Enterprise design emphasizes power efficiency without sacrificing performance, contributing to lower cooling requirements and reduced operational costs over the drive’s lifetime.

How to install HPE PM6 3.84 TB SAS Read Intensive SSD

Installing the HPE PM6 RI SSD in a compatible system is straightforward for data-center professionals. Follow these general steps to ensure a secure, reliable installation and optimal performance:

  1. Power down the server or storage enclosure and disconnect it from power to prevent any electrical damage or data corruption.
  2. Prepare the 2.5-inch drive bay or hot-swap tray according to your server’s hardware guidelines. If your system uses hot-swappable bays, remove the existing drive tray carefully and set it aside.
  3. Insert the HPE PM6 RI SSD into the empty drive bay or backplane slot, ensuring it seats firmly and aligns with the connector. For hot-swap configurations, close the tray securely and reseat it in the chassis.
  4. Reconnect SAS cables or backplane connections, then restore power. Enter the server’s BIOS/RAID controller setup to recognize the new disk. If necessary, configure the drive as part of a logical drive or as a standalone member depending on your storage topology.
  5. Initialize the drive in the operating system or storage controller utility. Run any vendor-provided firmware updates or health checks if available, and perform a quick format or RAID initialization as required by your deployment plan.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is Read Intensive (RI) in an SSD? Read Intensive SSDs are optimized for workloads with a higher ratio of reads to writes. They excel at caching, boot drives, and read-dominant applications, delivering high read throughput and low latency while handling frequent data retrieval operations.
  • What workloads are best suited for the HPE PM6 3.84 TB RI SSD? Ideal for read caching, OS boot and swap, web servers, social media platforms, content delivery networks, and other scenarios where reads outpace writes and fast data access is critical for performance and user experience.
  • Is this drive compatible with most SAS-based servers and backplanes? The PM6 RI SSD is designed for SAS environments and works with systems that support 24 Gb/s SAS interfaces. Compatibility depends on your server model, backplane, and RAID/controller configuration, so refer to your hardware vendor’s compatibility matrix to confirm fit.
  • What advantages does the 2.5-inch form factor offer? The 2.5-inch form factor provides versatile integration into a wide range of servers, storage arrays, and backplanes. It enables straightforward upgrades and easier tray replacement without significant chassis reconfiguration.
  • What about durability and warranty? Enterprise SSDs like the PM6 RI are engineered for continuous operation, with data integrity features and reliability designed for data-center workloads. Warranty terms vary by region and vendor; consult your HP/partner documentation for exact warranty details and support options.
  • Can this drive be used for data caching and acceleration in existing storage pools? Yes. Read Intensive SSDs are commonly deployed to accelerate read-heavy caches and hot data paths, improving hit rates and reducing latency for frequently accessed data within storage pools or hyper-converged environments.

Worked on slow leak… one month already!!!
Style: 18oz
Edit: Still holding proper pressure at 2-months !!! Had a slow leak where my tire went from 44psi to ~18psi over 2-3 days… Dashboard light would let me know every few days that I had a tire problem and I would inflate the tire back up to 44psi… Anyway, I used this product and filled air back to 44 psi and it’s held the pressure for a month already !!!! Be sure to deflate tire to ~15 PSI before adding the product… it only took about 30 seconds to empty the container into my tire with the tire pressure low. Very happy with this product !!!

Effective temporary fix
Style: 18oz, Style: 18oz
The slim brand has always been an genuine effective fix. I have been using slime since I used to ride on bicycles. Well it is not a permanent fix for if you have a hole in your inner tube it is a great fix to hold you over until you are able to get to either the mechanic or to your local store to get a replacement inner tube. Overall, it's worth every penny and you get plenty in the canister that it comes in depending on which slime you are getting whether that's the plastic bottle for your inner tubes for a bicycle or the metal canister as I've shown in my picture for your SUVs trucks or vans. However I don't give this an entire five stars but more of four stars not because of their product but because resorting to using slime rather than fixing the problem is more of my own problem. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 👍👍

Don't buy doesn't work
Style: 18oz, Style: 18oz
Terrible did nothing. Even tried to let wheel turn 360 degrees yet the solution get in the tire leak proper. Directions on can differ from instructions on here/Amazon. I followed directions on can EXACTLY and still didnt even hold one PSI of air. I'd be better off burning the $10 for warmth rather then waste it this way
