How to install Middle Atlantic Custom Shelf

  • Prepare the rack: ensure your cabinet or rack is clean, stable, and within a standard 19" footprint. Identify the RU location where you want the shelf to sit, taking into account airflow, cabling paths, and access needs.
  • Position the shelf: align the 19" mounting points of the shelf with the vertical rack rails at the chosen RU. The 7 RU height should sit comfortably within the available space, with room for any adjacent equipment and front-panel accessibility.
  • Secure the shelf: use appropriate rack screws for your enclosure (typically 10-32 or M6/M4 variations depending on your rack). Fasten the shelf to both vertical rails to ensure a solid, vibration-free installation. Confirm the screws are snug but not overtightened to avoid warping the anodized finish.
  • Install the component: slide the equipment into the shelf opening with the front face aligned to the shelf’s cutout. The RSH design provides a precise match to the component’s front panel, resulting in a clean, flush appearance.
  • Route cables and finalize: connect power, data, and other cables as needed, then route them neatly along the rack rails or through cable management channels. Check for adequate clearance around the component and ensure that the face remains accessible for controls and indicators.

junk
radio runs hot even when not transmitting. programming cable does not work with win 11. it does work with chirp once you find a 10 year old pc to program it. programming from the front panel seems impossible. knobs are made of rubber and keep falling off. i am sure i will find more once i use it for a while if it lasts. Update: I was able to trudge through the manual and make the changes i needed from the front panel, took a while with the darn buttons falling off. Manual is not good but with some patience you can work through it. If you need a tiny radio and your budget allows i would look at the anytone 778.

good radio for the money
THE GOOD.. These are very good radios for the money, we currently have 6 of these the oldest is probably 3 years old, we can mounter all local emergency services, easily get into all of our local ham 2 meter and 70 cm repeaters. It IS NOT part 95 compliant by the FCC which means it IS NOT LEGAL for GMRS use, but it can broadcast and receive on all FRS, MURS and GMRS frequency's, use at your own risk on these frequency's. One of these radio's are in a ranch jeep it is our oldest radio, this thing has lived in hot dusty environment, been soaked with water and mud and has held up great. Easy to program with CHIRP. THE BAD.. They claim the they are 25 watt VHF 20 watt UHF, The ones we have only put out 18-19 watts, which is plenty of power for most repeater operation. The data port and speaker port are side by side on the back if you have your radio mounted to were you cant see the rear and put the programing cable into the speaker port it WILL blow your speaker.

It works, quality could be better
I was going to use this on a trip from Boise to Alaska as a multi use radio to listen to LADD, FRS, GMRS, and talk on Ham frequencies. After programming it and playing around with it, I decided to take my FT7250D. Like: Small size Lots of memories Audio is OK Programming cable included. Multi frequency monitoring, if you’re into that (I’m not). Dislike: Quality - knobs are soft rubber and come off easily. 4 frequency displays. Why? Cannot turn them off. Display text is small because of the 4 displays. Accessing features and menu items can be confusing.
