Designed for broadcast and professional video workflows, the Panasonic Camera Control Unit (CCU) delivers high‑quality image control and reliable long‑distance transmission at an affordable price. This compact, lightweight unit fits neatly into a 19-inch rack and stands out for its ability to manage camera control signals over long spans without compromising image integrity. With 12G-SDI and 3G-SDI Quad Link outputs and an upgrade path to 4K, the CCU is engineered to scale with evolving production demands while staying accessible for studios, OB vans, and remote broadcasting operations.

  • Long‑distance optical transmission between camera and CCU is possible, enabling flexible setups across studios, campuses, or remote locations while maintaining pristine signal quality and synchronized control. This capability reduces the need for frequent camera repositioning or close‑range infrastructure, streamlining complex production environments.
  • 2U rack‑mountable compact design and lightweight construction mean the CCU easily fits into standard racks, saving valuable space in control rooms and mobile production trucks. The 2U form factor simplifies installation alongside other broadcast equipment, power rails, and cable management systems.
  • 12G‑SDI and 3G‑SDI Quad Link outputs provide robust, flexible video and control pathways that support high‑bitrate signals. The Quad Link approach offers redundancy and bandwidth for demanding workflows, while the system remains compatible with a wide range of professional cameras and monitoring equipment.
  • 4K upgrade capability ensures the CCU remains future‑proof as your production moves toward higher resolutions. The upgrade path helps protect your infrastructure investment and enables seamless transition to 4K delivery without replacing the core control unit.
  • Centralized camera control and streamlined signal routing simplify operator workflows, reducing setup times and minimizing the risk of misconfigurations. The CCU consolidates critical functions—camera control, tally, and signal routing—so crews can focus on capturing compelling content rather than wrestling with equipment.

Technical Details of Panasonic Camera Control Unit (CCU)

  • Form factor: 2U height, rack‑mountable design suitable for standard 19‑inch racks in studios and mobile production vehicles.
  • Signal outputs: 12G‑SDI and 3G‑SDI Quad Link outputs to support high‑bandwidth video and control pathways with room for future upgrades.
  • Video pipeline: Long‑distance optical transmission capable, enabling flexible camera placement and centralized control across expansive production environments.
  • Upgrade path: 4K upgrade availability to keep pace with evolving broadcast standards and content delivery requirements.
  • Compatibility: Built to integrate with Panasonic broadcast camera ecosystems and related control protocols, enabling cohesive operation within existing workflows.

How to install Panasonic Camera Control Unit (CCU)

  • Plan your rack layout to accommodate a 2U device alongside power distribution and cooling considerations. Ensure adequate ventilation and clearance for cable connections.
  • Mount the CCU securely in a 19‑inch rack using appropriate rails or rack ears, following the manufacturer’s mounting guidelines for stability and service accessibility.
  • Connect power to the CCU using a clean, surge‑protected supply. Verify voltage compatibility with your region and ensure a dedicated circuit if possible to minimize electrical noise and interruptions.
  • Attach camera control cables and video paths. Use the 12G‑SDI and 3G‑SDI Quad Link outputs for video and data transmission, and align optical transmission paths as required by your long‑distance configuration. Label cables for easy maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Configure the CCU within your production system. Set camera control protocols, routing paths, tally signals, and any necessary encoding or de‑embedding options according to your camera models and control software. Keep a detailed record of settings for future changes.
  • Perform a baseline test. Power up the system, verify camera response to control commands, confirm video routing integrity across the Quad Link outputs, and test long‑distance links to confirm signal stability and latency within acceptable margins.
  • Document interconnections and create a standard operating procedure for operators. Include rack positions, cable diagrams, and any required start‑up or shutdown sequences to ensure fast, repeatable setups in future shoots.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is a Panasonic Camera Control Unit (CCU) and what does it do?

A: The CCU is the central hub for controlling compatible Panasonic broadcast cameras, handling camera control signals, tally indicators, and signal routing. It enables centralized management of camera settings and ensures synchronized operations across multi‑camera shoots, which improves efficiency and consistency in production workflows.

  • Q: Does the CCU support 4K, and how is upgrade performed?

A: Yes, the device supports a path to 4K through an upgrade, allowing teams to transition to higher resolution production without replacing the entire control system. Upgrade procedures typically involve firmware updates and potential hardware considerations as defined by Panasonic’s service standards.

  • Q: What kind of outputs does the CCU provide?

A: The unit offers 12G‑SDI and 3G‑SDI Quad Link outputs, enabling high‑bandwidth video transmission and robust control data pathways. This configuration supports versatile signal routing and compatibility with a wide range of professional cameras and monitoring equipment.

  • Q: Is the CCU suitable for long‑distance productions?

A: Yes. The design emphasizes long‑distance optical transmission between the camera and CCU, which allows for flexible camera placements and centralized control across large studios, campuses, or remote production sites without sacrificing image quality or control reliability.

  • Q: How should I plan installation in a busy control room?

A: Prioritize a clean rack layout, proper cooling, and clearly labeled cabling. Use the 2U form factor to minimize footprint while leaving space for access and maintenance, and ensure critical power and signal lines have protection and strain relief to minimize wear during operations.

If you liked 1491, you'll like 1493
Format: Hardcover
I originally read the first edition of 1491, which I loved. So that's why I ordered 1493. At about the same time 1493 arrived, I found out there was a new, revised version of 1491, which my husband bought from another source. So I re-read it at the same time I read 1493 for the first time. The reason I mention this is that there are some similarities between the revised version of 1491 and the newer book, 1493 - actually some repeated material. That's ok, as the author is taking the premise of 1491 another step further. Essentially, 1491 focuses on what new studies show was really going on in the Western Hemisphere before Columbus' arrival, where native peoples were far more numerous and had more advanced cultures than Europeans previously thought possible. In 1493, Charles Mann shows not only how Columbus and Europeans changed the New World, but how the "Columbian exchange" wrought great changes in the other direction as well. And he pulls in the further exchanges with Asia, to show the trans-global linkages of the phenomenon. So, some of his exposition gets a little repetitious, but overall he's an engaging writer, and for those of us who love the history of cultural exchanges and first contact, these books are mandatory reading!

Truly worth every penny. DS2r?
Format: Hardcover
Truly incredible documentation of the thoughtful work of a handful of artists. I'm hoping that by supporting this book we may inch ourselves closer to a Dead Space 2 remake lead by Motive studio. This book is a must for fans or the game and horror in general. Well made, good quality images, lore drops, developer letters. Its fantastic!

Great Art Book
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
One of my all time favorite games, this was perfect. It IS an art book, so more into the visuals then descriptions or thoughts on designs, but that's about what I expected. Especially as it's more for the remake than original. But still worth every cent, great to see the details (especially things that are tough to see in-game) and small descriptions. Arrived quicky and in perfect condition, no complaints at all!
