Background - What is workplace emergency?
Workplace emergencies come in many forms. While some emergencies are specific to particular industries or work environments, others can affect all workplaces. Knowing the potential emergencies that your workplace might face is the first step to planning and training for them.
An emergency at work is any event that causes harm to your clients, employees, or public, or disrupts your workplace operations. While emergencies can come in many forms, they will generally fall under three types: work-related, natural and external.
A well-thought out plan is the best way to be prepared for an emergency and minimize damage. What should an emergency response plan look?
All workplaces will experience both natural and civil emergencies, although the response times may vary. It is more difficult to evaluate emergencies that are directly related to your work. It is a good idea to start with a risk assessment from the past that identifies and outlines the potential risks in your workplace.
Each workplace will have its own risks and will require different management strategies.
