How to Install Cisco NCS 2006 Shelf Assembly

Installing a remanufactured Cisco NCS 2006 Shelf Assembly is straightforward for qualified technicians familiar with Cisco network hardware. Follow these general steps to ensure a safe, efficient deployment with minimal downtime:

  • Prepare your workspace and gather required mounting hardware, power cables, and any relevant rack accessories. Verify rack space, weight capacity, and environmental conditions to maintain hardware integrity.
  • Power down the system and disconnect all network cables and power sources from the existing shelf or rack before removing components. Follow your organization’s change-management procedures.
  • If replacing an existing shelf, carefully remove the old unit and inspect mounting rails, backplane connections, and adjacent modules for any wear or damage. Clean any dust or debris from the area.
  • Install the remanufactured NCS 2006 Shelf Assembly into the rack, secure with rails or brackets, and ensure it sits level. Connect the backplane interface, related modules, and the required power distribution units as specified by Cisco guidelines.
  • Attach data cables and interconnects, ensuring proper seating and routing to avoid interference. Verify that all fan trays, thermal sensors, and cooling paths are clear and operational.
  • Power on the shelf and monitor initialization LEDs and diagnostic outputs. Run baseline tests to confirm link status, throughput, and module recognition, then reintroduce network traffic gradually while observing performance.
  • Document the installation for asset tracking and future maintenance. Update inventory records, include serial numbers, and confirm warranty status and support options with your vendor.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: What does “remanufactured” mean for Cisco hardware?
A: Remanufactured equipment has been restored to meet or exceed original specifications. It undergoes a comprehensive refurbishment process, including cleaning, part replacement where necessary, functional testing, and certification to confirm performance and compatibility with the manufacturer’s standards.
  • Q: Is the NCS 2006 Shelf compatible with other Cisco hardware?
A: The shelf is designed for use within Cisco NCS 2000-series environments and should be compatible with the corresponding backplanes, chassis, and modules outlined by Cisco for your specific configuration. Always verify compatibility with your existing hardware before purchase.
  • Q: Does the remanufactured shelf include a warranty?
A: Yes, remanufactured Cisco components typically come with a limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects and performance for a defined period. Check the product listing or vendor documentation for exact warranty terms.
  • Q: What kind of performance can I expect from a remanufactured NCS 2006 Shelf?
A: You can expect reliability and throughput aligned with Cisco specifications for the NCS 2000 family. The unit is tested to support core routing, high-availability configurations, and peak traffic scenarios typical of backbone networks and data centers.
  • Q: What maintenance or support is recommended after installation?
A: Regular diagnostics, firmware/OS updates as approved by Cisco, and routine physical inspections of cabling, power, and cooling systems are recommended. Maintain documentation of serial numbers, warranty status, and service contracts for smooth ongoing support.
  • Q: Can I use this shelf as a direct replacement for an existing Cisco NCS 2006 unit?
A: In many cases, yes, provided the replacement matches the same chassis hardware family and is configured to your network’s needs. Always verify with your network engineer or Cisco account representative before swapping components to avoid compatibility issues.

Elevates your wrist
Color: Right - Black, Size: Large, Color: Right - Black, Size: Large
This is a great tool. No wrist pain day 1. It elevates your wrist to level with the mouse so there’s no backward strain. Takes a little getting use to but well worth no pain.

It's hard af.
Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small, Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small
Edit: just realized Amazon sent me a left handed one! I got this one and the g2 or whatever with the strap. The g2 is great. This one is hard though. The edges of the rest thingy. And the edges in the middle where it splits are annoying. Idk if it's a difference in the rubber pads or what. Even if this works for wrist pain, it's not worth it for the palm discomfort.

Ergonomic and effective, but requires adjustment.
Color: Right - White, Size: Large
Bought this for improving wrist posture during long hours at the desk. What I like • The ergonomic design helps reduce wrist strain, especially during extended typing sessions. • The right-handed orientation is comfortable and natural to use. • High-quality build, feels sturdy and durable. What could be better • It takes some time to adjust to the unique design, especially if you’re used to traditional mice. • The size may not be suitable for people with smaller hands. • It could be a bit pricey compared to other ergonomic mice on the market. Bottom line: A great investment for improving wrist posture and reducing strain, but it might not be for everyone due to the learning curve and price. Perfect for users looking to enhance ergonomics, but consider alternatives if you have smaller hands or need a more budget-friendly option.

It’s painful. Not worth it.
Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small, Color: Right - Grey, Size: Small
I hate it. Period. Very strong feelings about it right out of the box. Gave it a few days, and not only do I still hate it but it’s very painful to use. The rubber material is hard and has pressure points that make you come away feeling like you’ve rested your wrist on the edge of a table for too long. I come away more sore using this than not. They only have small and large sizes, I think the small is too small for me? (I’m not sure. I can tell it doesn’t fit well, but I can’t tell if it’s because it’s too small or the shape isn’t right for my wrist). In any event, I am sure the large would be too large and even if they had a medium size I still wouldn’t repurchase this. Maybe if you’ve got some meat on your bones it would be more comfortable but as you can see, I am a very thin person and this is pressing on all the wrong places. I also feel like the center valley part contributes to carpal tunnel pain because the very firm edges of each side rested right in that area, not offering any support to the valley of the wrist, and therefore creating pressure to that nerve center and the ligaments. I don’t know why they chose this material, it’s too firm. Also, I think a better design would be a little tab from the center of it sticking out and then attaching to the bottom of the mouse so that both mouse and the wrist “support” worked as one unit when moving the mouse around. I often found that I didn’t drag the wrist piece with my mouse well and that it caused even more issues. If it were comfortable I would have made a little tab myself and connected the mouse and the wrist rest together, but as it’s extremely not even remotely comfortable I’m not bothering and I’ve already started the return process.

Looks and feels great. Amazingly smooth, and well-crafted. It fits the length of my keyboard, and has quality grippers on the base to prevent sliding. Was actually really pleased with it.
