Malala Yousafzai is a 24-year-old activist for female education and is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Starting as a teenager at just 11 years old, she publicly spoke out against the prohibition on the education of girls imposed in Pakistan, even when her family’s safety was in danger. She gave local speeches, wrote blog posts for the BBC under a pen name, made television appearances, and made short films for the New York Times. She gained global recognition when she survived an assassination attempt in 2012 at the age of 15 when she was returning home from school. This incident ignited protests and caused the UN to create a petition for all children around the world to be back in school by 2015.
