WHAT THE EDITOR OF THE BLADE MAGAZINE THINKS

“The most asked question in the world of knives is a double-edged one: What knife did James Bowie use in the Sandbar Fight and where is it today? James L. Batson provides the best answer yet in his new book.

No one has researched Bowie and Bowie knives as exhaustively as Batson, and his book harvests the fruits of that research in Sherlock Holmes fashion, providing documents, dates and other data that support his claim of the knife in question. While the assertion that the knife in question belonged to Bowie is not new, Batson’s step-by-step analysis of why he believes it was the knife Bowie used in the Sandbar Fight is.

Batson is an award-winning ABS master smith, past ABS chairman, leader of the annual Batson Bladesmithing Symposium and a mentor to scores of bladesmiths wordwide. Among other things, he not only knows how Bowie and other knives were made in Bowie’s time but of which materials, how they were tempered, how they were ground and the nature of their accouterment. Just as important he is familiar withth the top knifemakers of Bowie’s time, the ones who actually built Bowie knives of the type in question and where those makers lived and worked.

Batson takes all this information and forges it into an intriguing who-done-it that supplies the facts in a fashion that makes good old common sense. Along the way he provides much new
information about the Sandbar Fight from the viewpoints of those who were there or knew those who were there, other legendary Bowie knives with links to James and Rezin Bowie, and more.

Hats off to an inspirational bladesmithing leader who provides an engrossing explanation done in the scientific method that must be considered the best proof to date of the specific knife James
Bowie used in the Sandbar Fight, who made it, how and when.”

WHAT THE EDITOR OF KNIFE MAGAZINE THINKS ABOUT THE AUTHOR & THIS BOOK

“James Batson’s extensive and wide ranging contributions to blacksmithing, bladesmithing, and the ongoing study of history as it relates to knives are widely recognized. For decades he’s poured his endless energy into these passions, passing on his enthusiasm to a grateful audience at every opportunity. In this volume, Dr. Batson enhances his 1992 classic “James Bowie and the Sandbar Fight” with a second work containing further explorations into the history of the people, places and circumstances that led to that fateful day on a sandbar above Natchez — the day a man named Bowie wrote the first chapter of his legend with a knife that would come to bear his name. Also presented here is an extensive evaluation of the “Edwin Forrest” knife, from which he draws some intriguing conclusions.

The result is a book that is as entertaining as it is historically reliable, at once a leaping off point for future researchers and a book to be worn dog-eared by knife enthusiasts and history buffs alike.”

Mark D. Zalesky,
Editor-Publisher of KNIFE Magazine
and Bowie knife collector/historian

My Niece dog loves it!
Size: 18in, Style: Sport
This ball launcher takes a bit of getting. used to, but it is really helpful for those of us who are not MLB pitchers! The launcher itself is a sturdy plastic that is not brittle yet not soft; when the ball is launched there is no destructive bending in the shaft. The handle is padded and ergonomically sound while the cup end cradles the ball but has cut-outs on each side for easy loading and unloading of the ball. It did take a bit of practice for me to get the hang of it, but for my husband and son it was much easier. The launcher works well to help us older, non-gifted athletes launch the ball farther and faster while saving the shoulder, elbow, and wrist (important if there is any arthritis). The ball fits nicely into the cup and releases easily. The 2.5 size was too small for my Doberman, so we opted for the 3.5 in launcher. This smaller launcher and ball are now in the employ of my sister and her husband for their retriever-border collie mix, an 18 month old little fireball!. This is just the right size for her. My sister's husband has difficulty with arthritis and is neither quick on his feet nor able to stand very long. So the launcher comes in very handy. He can actually sit in a lawn chair and throw the ball repeatedly when their dog retrieves and returns it to him. That is a win- win! Top 3 Likes: -Easy to use -Helps older pet owner -Drives the ball farther and faster Top 3 Dislikes: -With repeated uses the edges of the launcher appear to get scuffed and scratched -Some ingrained staining on the edges persists requiring scrubbing to remove -There is a mild worry that with time the launcher may snap

My dog loves it
Size: 25in, Style: Sport
I am amazed at how far I can throw a tennis ball. My dog and I absolutely love this. What happens to work well with the squeaky balls?I get on amazon as well. I have one of these at home, And I keep another one in the truck. Very durable, The balls have good bounce, My dog and I have a lot of fun with it. My dog doesn't chew much on balls, But this one seems like it's going to stand out, I love the versatility, Hey can handle almost ending ball that same size. Are you solid rubber bouncy balls, Squeak. Ing tuba balls, Whiffle balls with all the holes in it, Even the squeaky chewing balls. As long as there are that same size. love the product. I've been using them for a few years.

Lightweight Balls
Color: A.Orange+Blue+Green
lightweight but solid. Unfortunately, I can't bring to dog park for my dog to play with as the larger dogs will destroy them. Not for dogs that chew through everything.
