The four retainers stand in a line in front of a disused cannon and the walls of Qasr Al Hosn fort. The three men on the left each hold a rifle. The man on the far right wears a waistcoat over his thobe (ankle-length shirt) under his a ceremonial bisht (robe). Behind the men 'arish huts and date palms can be seen in the far background. When this picture was taken Qasr Al Hosn fort was the home of Sheikh Shakhbut bin Sultan Al Nahyan, then ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (1928-1966).
