This is a single knife one forged 11-inch raindrop Damascus chef knife built for daily kitchen work and precise cutting. The 6-inch blade handles slicing, chopping, and general prep with full control. The purple Pakka wood handle with a brass spacer, steel bolster, and steel pommel keeps it balanced and distinctive in hand. Total length runs 11 inches from tip to pommel end.

The Blade

The blade runs 6 inches and is forged from layered 1095 high-carbon steel and 15N20 nickel alloy. The raindrop Damascus pattern forms during the grinding and forging process, with circular depressions cut across the stacked billet before the final forging pass. Hammering stretches those circles into teardrop shapes that spread across the full blade surface. Acid etching after forging deepens the contrast between light and dark layers, making the pattern bold and clear from heel to tip. Every blade carries a slightly different raindrop formation from the forging process.

Heat treatment brings the blade to 58–60 HRC. That range holds a sharp working edge through daily kitchen use without becoming brittle under regular cutting load.

The chef knife profile gives this blade a curved belly suited for rocking cuts and a pointed tip for trimming and detail work. It handles the full range of daily prep — dicing vegetables, slicing proteins, mincing herbs, and portioning ingredients. The double bevel edge performs equally on both right and left hands.

The Handle

The 5-inch handle is made from purple Pakka wood. Looking at the image, the handle shows a deep blue-purple tone with a smooth, resin-rich surface finish bold and distinctive against the etched Damascus blade. Pakka wood is resin-stabilized hardwood compressed under heat and pressure until the grain is fully sealed. The result is a handle that resists moisture, does not warp or crack, and holds its color and surface finish through years of daily kitchen use.

Purple Pakka wood stays secure in the hand during wet prep without becoming slippery. It requires no oiling or conditioning and wipes clean easily after use.

Brass Spacer, Steel Bolster, and Steel Pommel

The brass spacer ring sits between the purple Pakka wood and the steel bolster, adding a warm gold accent that contrasts sharply against both materials. It is a purely decorative element that also seals the junction between the handle and bolster tightly.

The steel bolster sits flush at the blade-to-handle junction. It adds forward balance weight, reinforces the most stressed point on the knife, and acts as a natural finger guard during heavy chopping strokes.

The steel pommel caps the rear of the handle. It adds rear balance weight that offsets the blade length and keeps the knife neutral in hand during extended prep sessions. The pommel also reinforces the handle construction permanently at the tail end of the full tang.

Full Tang Construction

This knife is full tang. The blade steel runs the complete 11-inch length from tip through the pommel, pinned through the purple Pakka wood for permanent structural integrity. Full tang eliminates blade flex at the handle junction and distributes weight evenly across the knife from bolster to pommel.

For a wider chef knife blade profile, the 8-inch Twisted Damascus Gyuto offers a longer blade with a wider belly suited for high-volume prep work.

FAQs

What does the steel pommel add to this knife?

The pommel adds rear balance weight that offsets the blade length, keeping the knife neutral in hand during extended prep. It also permanently reinforces the tail end of the full tang construction.

Is purple Pakka wood a durable handle material?

Yes, Pakka wood is resin-stabilized and fully moisture-resistant. It holds its color, shape, and surface finish through years of daily kitchen use without warping, cracking, or fading.

Is a 6-inch blade practical for daily kitchen prep?

Yes, a 6-inch blade gives excellent control for chopping vegetables, slicing proteins, and general prep tasks. It suits cooks who prefer a shorter, more maneuverable blade over a longer chef knife.

How should this knife be maintained?

Hand wash and dry immediately after each use. Apply a light coat of mineral oil to the blade occasionally to preserve the raindrop Damascus pattern. Store on a magnetic strip or in a knife roll.

The absolute bottom line in performance and price.
Digital Storage Capacity: 128 GB, Color: Black
This phone is the bottom line. It's just enough RAM. A nice OLED display. And that is about it. This dog was heaving like it was running a marathon after set up and a restart. Normally I'd buy a refurbished Pixel, but the prices and support dates are out of my budget sadly. Just playing around to see how the menus looked, the UI crashed after hanging for about 45 seconds. I can't say I hate it, there's much worse out there. Hence I'd call this the bottom line, lowest standard.

I liked that the initial setup was easy and that the device responds quickly for calls, apps, and social media. A great option for anyone looking for a reliable phone without spending too much.

6 years of support, but set your expectations.
Digital Storage Capacity: 128 GB, Color: Blue
I was a Moto user. Before moving over to Android, I was among the 0% that used a Windows Phone. My needs have been modest, so the idea of shelling out nearly a thousand or more for a phone never crossed my mind. What is important is ongoing support, which rules out every cat-sat-on-a-keyboard brand. It’s also the reason why I switched from Moto over to Samsung; offering 6 years of OS and security support (from initial release) on an entry-level class device is a HUGE PLUS. In the case of this A17, that’s all the way into August 2031. This is NOT a fast phone by any means, however. Playing media and general browsing? Sure. Playing video? Fine. Lots of videos at once like on some social media platforms? Not so much. Taking videos? It's only 1080p. More immersive games? I wouldn’t bother. Between the processor and the 4GB of RAM, some patience will be necessary, especially for folks running lots of apps. There is more underlying “bloat” here; turning off the animations under developer mode along with unneeded services improves the experience a bit, however. The A17 phone case I purchased separately for this arrived labeled as an A26; the glass screen protector as an A16, so apparently this phone shares a very similar design with those models. No 3.5mm jack but there is a micro SD slot which it shares with the SIM tray. The AMOLED screen is a huge plus; great contrast and sharpness, which is NOT common in this entry-level class. It does have NFC for tap to pay, but no wireless charging. Will this win any benchmarks? No. Folks expecting sports car performance at an economy car price will be extremely disappointed. This does not nor will not compare to phones that cost more. However, if your needs are modest, there’s no need to spend $$$ either when this will do the job. --- Edit: Just for added confirmation about ongoing support (or lack thereof), the Moto G17 that was just released at the end of January 2026 does NOT promise ANY OS updates at all. That's a stark contrast to the A17 here with a promise of 6 years of OS and security updates. Edit 2: Wireless Android Auto connectivity has become tedious with the aftermarket generic Android head unit on my vehicle, with the phone often forgetting to connect. The real culprit is that those units are often running hardware and an OS older than what they advertise; it may say 15 on the surface but underneath, it's actually running like 10 or even older. Getting a USB wired-to-wireless CarPlay/Android Auto adapter fixed that; the phone has remembered to connect every time since. For less than $10, it was worth taking that chance.

Bright Screen, Easy to Use, and Reliable for Everyday Life
Digital Storage Capacity: 128 GB, Color: Blue
I’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G for a bit now, and overall I’m really happy with it. It feels like one of those phones that quietly does almost everything well without costing a fortune. The first thing I noticed was the display. The large AMOLED screen is beautiful. Colors are vibrant, text is crisp, and it makes everything from scrolling to watching videos feel more high end than I expected. It’s easily one of my favorite features. This phone is also very easy to use and user friendly. The layout is straightforward, settings are easy to find, and everything just makes sense without a steep learning curve. It’s a great option if you want something simple to navigate without feeling overly basic. Performance has been solid for everyday tasks like texting, browsing, and using apps. One thing I did notice is that right after powering it on, the screen can feel a bit sluggish and slightly unresponsive. It seems like the system and background apps are still loading. Once everything finishes starting up, though, it runs smoothly and works great. The camera is another nice surprise. In good lighting, photos come out sharp with natural looking color. Outdoor shots especially look really nice. Low light is a bit hit or miss, but still decent for casual use. Battery life easily gets me through a full day, and the fast charging is really convenient when I need a quick boost. I also like the durable feel of the phone. It’s slim but doesn’t feel fragile, and the expandable storage is a huge plus if you store a lot of photos or apps. A couple minor downsides: it can slow down a little if too many apps are open at once, and low light photos aren’t its strongest area. Overall: This is a dependable, user friendly phone with a gorgeous screen and solid everyday performance. It’s a great choice if you want something simple, functional, and comfortable to use without spending a lot.
