This mythical shaft is none other than the King of the Underworld's masterpiece. Hades himself has come to claim you with a black and red rod that is designed with devilish details. You gasp, as if air had left your lungs for eons, and open your eyes to see the winged feet of Hermes flying away. In front of you is a dock leading to waters shrouded in mist. There are no lights anywhere, just an eerie glow. You feel disoriented and unsteady, but you walk towards the dock as if by instinct. As your feet step onto the swaying wooden slats, two lights flicker to life ten feet from you. The eyes of the ferryman Charon, burning like fire in the darkest night, glare at you impatiently. You swallow nervously and reach into your pocket to find coins there. He reaches out his palm for your payment and you step onto the boat. As you both leave the dock, the river starts to moan, and you realize the bodies of the restless dead are beginning to reach out to you, their faces surfacing and crying out softly, pained. You lean away from them in horror, keeping away from the edges of the boat. Charon does not seem affected, and keeps the paddle steadily dipping into the water again and again. Soon you have reached the end of the river and as you are about to step out, something lands heavily in front of you! It startles you so much you nearly fall into the water, but the creature grabs your wrist and pulls you into its arms. As you get your bearings you realize it is a man with rippling muscles, tall and dark with eyes like a starless sky, and skin that burns hot despite the cold air surrounding you both. His massive wings sweep back and forth a few times, causing a strong gust, then he leaps into the air and carries you into the cavernous unknown. You don't know what is up or down, or if there is a sky, but soon you both land on the balcony of a dark castle. He sets you down and then pulls his wings back into his body.

"Persephone, you've returned." The man in front of you says, lust in his voice. You're confused. Who is this man and why does he think you're the goddess of Spring, the wife of King Hades? Then it dawns on you… this man is indeed the king of the underworld, and you may be in the deepest trouble of your life. "Am I dead?" you ask, your voice trembling. He frowns, concerned. "The journey must have caused you to forget." He walks towards you and then lifts you up. You choose not to fight back as he carries you into the grandest, richest room you've ever seen. The king's bedroom is gilded with ancient gold and jewels, with a bed that looks like it could fit ten people, and a table full of delicacies and delights that await you. He tells the servants to leave and then places you on the bed. "Don't worry, I've got something to make you remember everything." He strips your clothing off and you barely put up a fight. Then he drops his own clothing to the floor. Your eyes bulge as you see the largest, rigid shaft. It has a tapered tip that looks ready to plunge inside of you, length and girth to make you feel just a little anxious, and the ribs and ridges make your mouth go dry with anticipation. Heat pools between your legs as you gaze at it and a whimper escapes your lips. He lowers himself to taste you, grunting and groaning in delight, and comes up with a wet face, grinning through devilishly wicked features. Then he pushes you back, holds your hair in a tight ball in his fist, and slides his shaft inside of you inch by inch… You cry out in pain and try to writhe free but his other hand pushes down against your chest, keeping you in place. "Take it! Take every part of me! You will soon remember everything!" Then his entire shaft is inside and you feel like you can barely breathe! Then he pulls it out and begins pounding, thrusting with speed and force until your pleasure rises, and rises, and rises, until you feel your whole body burn with intensity! You see a flash of light and scream out, bliss and ecstasy emptying you of any other thought, and then collapse on his bed, half-conscious. When you come to, you realize exactly who you are and what delicious things you and Hades are still yet to enjoy.

Biblical Style With Nondenominational, Contemporary Influences
Format: Kindle
I've read this twice now. It has the feel of an apocryphal book of the Old Testament, with a serious but heartwarming rhetorical style. The contents of the prophet's sermons are fairly modern, but the topics are abstract enough that they feel timeliness. This is a fun grab bag of aphorisms. Your mileage will vary based on how clearly the metaphor of each aphorism speaks to your own experience. I always find this book intriguing, but inherently hit or miss.

Beautiful Book Filled With Timeless Wisdom And Poetic Imagery
Format: Hardcover
This book just entered the public domain here in the United States and I heard good things about it so I thought I order a copy to celebrate Public Domain Day and introduce myself to this classic work of literature. This is a nice, sturdy hardcover edition from Penguin Classics with blue gilding on the pages and a sweet forward by Rupi Kaur who herself was inspired by the book growing up. With the first page, I was hooked and read the whole way through. The language is so elegant and rhythmic, and the lessons being taught are quite profound, for example the section on "Crime and Punishment" and how it speaks about citizens viewing criminals as "strangers" when they themselves have the same propensity to committing similar acts really stood out to me upon my first reading. Even though it's a very short book (about 100 pages long), it is so dense with imagery that it could take multiple re-readings in order to grasp every detail and inner truth being written. I plan to revisit this book every now and again in order to do so and it would serve as a nice companion for my life's journey. I highly recommend this to everyone.

beautiful!
Format: Kindle
The Prophet is a loftily written expose of the governing universal laws of love, rhythm, correspondence, cause and effect, dualism and polarity. I absolutely loved it and would not have understood it should it have presented itself to me earlier than this present moment. Deeply grateful for the lessons it beholds.

CLASSIC WORKS BUT SIZE & FORMAT ALMOST TOO SMALL TO READ
Format: Hardcover
This work is classic literature. But sadly, the product presentation doesn't make it clear how small the edition is -- 5x7 inches -- and how terribly small the font size is -- like 14 pt. It's really not readable -- but more a way to possess a treasured piece.

🏜️ Arrakis. Dune. Desert Planet.
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Earlier this year, I decided to actively stop doom scrolling. With the help of Opal to limit my access to social media on my phone, I had a ton of time to kill. I didn't want to go back to playing video games, I have probably played enough video games for two lifetimes, and I could only spend so much time job hunting, so I decided to give reading a real shot. Truth is, I never enjoyed reading as a kid. It always felt like homework, like something forced, and that took all the fun out of it. So why did I pick Dune? I really enjoyed the movies by Denis Villeneuve, and something about the book pulled me in. At that point, I could not tell if I chose Dune or if Dune chose me. 📖 Now onto the actual review. 🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨 “The mystery of Dune is not a problem to solve, but a reality to experience.” Dune feels less like a book and more like entering a world that already exists. Published in 1965 by Chilton, a company better known for auto repair manuals, it is packed with politics, philosophy, religion, ecology, prophecy, drugs, hallucinogenics, and deep world building. Following Paul Atreides (protagonist) from royal heir to outcast to leader of the Fremen to emperor felt like going through a transformation alongside him. I found myself learning about resilience, how to navigate a future you can see coming but cannot avoid, and what it really means to lead. Each chapter gave me something to think about. Even more, Dune feels very relevant today given our current political climate. Power, manipulation, religion, and control over resources are all central themes, and they hit differently when you look at the world around you. 💡 Pro tip for reading Dune Frank Herbert does not hold your hand. He drops you into a world filled with esoteric technology, unfamiliar terminology, and a culture with its own rules. It can feel overwhelming at first, but do not get discouraged if you do not understand everything right away. Let the world unfold as you go. I ended up reading the first three books in the series, Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune, and then went back to re-read Dune. This review is based on that second read, and it is amazing how much more you pick up the second time through. What also helped was reading the graphic novels alongside the book. They do not include every detail, but they stay faithful to the story and help bring the world to life visually. Also, if you have not watched the recent movies directed by Denis Villeneuve, they are worth checking out. I saw them before reading, and they helped me better understand the characters and major plot points.
