Renowned for its soothing composition and once vibrant color, "Roses" has significant historical context of van Gogh's struggle with mental health while nearing the end of his recovery journey at the Saint-Rémy asylum. The green and yellow diagonal background strokes give this painting an almost animated feel, that once contrasted with the pink roses that has, unfortunately, faded with time.
