The TEAC Tascam 144 is a vintage analogue recording device, released in 1979. It was the first four-track cassette recorder and it was used for home recording studios and by musicians for demo recordings or small-scale projects. The Tascam 144 was part of the Portastudio series, which revolutionised home recording in the 1980s by providing affordable multitrack recording capabilities.

This 144 not only looks and sounds good, but is also a little piece of history!

Notable users of the Tascam Portastudios series include Bruce Springsteen, The Cure, Four Tet, Mac DeMarco, Autechre, Tom Waits, Luke Prichard, Bootsy Collins, Wu-Tang Clan, Lou Reed, Aztec Camera’s Roddy Frame, John Frusciante and Lady Gaga.


Condition:

  • This is a used unit.

  • This 144 has has a major service. The service included but is not limited to:

    • Deep clean inside and out.

    • Deep clean of the tape mechanism.

    • Lubricated and greased all moving parts.

    • Installed brand new belts.

    • Installed brand new idler tyres.

    • Demagnetised the heads.

    • Replaced any faulty components.

    • Thorough test of all functions.

  • This unit shows some general wear from use and age. This includes some scuffs, scratches and nicks. The finish on the faceplate is a little patchy looking. Please see photos for further details. There is nothing major, nor anything which detracts from the use, functions or sounds of this awesome machine.

  • Please be aware, this unit is 100V. This means you MUST connect it to the correct step-down transformer before powering it on. Utility at its best
Snaps closed fast! I do like this thing though because the shelf is very stable and breathes well. HOWEVER it snaps shut very fast and very securely. The hooks were a little strange to install but once you get it set up it holds up well. I like the fact it collapses and hides away. Really great for a laundry room or a place you need a temporary shelf. Excellent and heavy weight material

great tuck-in shelf, though screws should be higher vs lower for stability
I'm really glad I got this little sweater drying rack. I love that it folds up against the wall to hardly take up any space at all. You do have to open and close it carefully b/c it can snap back very quickly and could pinch fingers or catch something else if there was anything hanging near it. The only other thing I don't love about it is that the screws are on the lower end of the frame so it is top-heavy and hangs forward. I screwed the screws in all the way to the drywall studs which we hammered flat against the wall and this still leans forward. It doesn't lean enough that something would slide off or anything but it doesn't look good when hanging out and forward. I definitely wouldn't use it as a display or storage shelf as it is pictured in one of the pictures in the listing. Even with that frustration though, I only took off one star as I'm overall very happy with the whole idea of this and it does work well and serve its purpose. I'm glad I got it.

I like this little collapsible drying shelf for my laundry room. It is compact and a great space saving shelf. I am always hunting for spaces to flat dry clothes where they wont be accessed by my toddlers or cat or dogs and this is a great solution for one off items that need flat drying. Purpose: For home and office use specifically: this is not meant to be a portable stand. It is sturdy and makes a great addition to any workspace. My 2018 MacBook Pro 13 inch touchbar laptop first perfectly. The space gray is almost exact. It is not adjustable but keeps the laptop at eyelevel for using at a desk. It really works well for those who would like to use it with dedicated assossories such as a mouse and keyboard. I researched for days and I’m happy I bought this because the quality is A+. It does not feel cheap and once it arrives, you’ll understand why it is so popular. I work at home and also as a university student I have struggled with neck pain from always looking down. This keeps the screen elevated so that it’s at eye level. It allows me to easily use a keyboard and mouse without having to readjust the screen. After searching for days and going through multiple stands, I believe this is the best quality stand for the price. I am glad I went with this specific model, the lines are clean, it’s aesthetically pleasing and functional. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to use their computer as a monitor with a separate mouse and keyboard. Cons: It’s not meant to be portable, and although that would be a good option for anyone wanting to take it to the library and travel; this item is heavy and sturdy. It would not travel well. Also as mentioned, the stand elevates the computer at a height where you would need a separate mouse and keyboard. It would not be functional to use your laptop to type or the trackpad while on this stand. Overall I am glad I bought this item first before another. It is a high quality assessory that I believe will get good use and last for years. Definitely would recommend.
