Marbled Scorpionfish (Scorpaenodes sp.)
Overview

The Marbled Scorpionfish is a compact and beautifully patterned ambush predator, displaying mottled shades of red, brown, and cream that provide exceptional camouflage among rocks and corals. Despite its small size, this species has a commanding presence, making it a fascinating addition to a peaceful predatory or species-specific marine aquarium.

Origin

Found throughout the Indo-Pacific region, Scorpaenodes species inhabit rocky reefs, coral rubble, and crevices where they remain motionless, blending perfectly into their surroundings while waiting to ambush prey.

Feeding

A carnivorous predator that feeds primarily on small crustaceans and fish. It may require live foods such as shrimp initially but can adapt to frozen meaty offerings like mysis, krill, or chopped seafood once acclimated. Feed once daily.

Tank Mates

Best suited to peaceful, non-aggressive tank mates too large to be eaten—such as tangs, angelfish, or larger wrasses. Avoid small fish or shrimp, which will be viewed as prey, and avoid overly active or aggressive species.

Aggression

Generally peaceful and solitary. The Marbled Scorpionfish spends much of its time resting and camouflaged, posing no threat to tank mates it cannot swallow.

Experience Level

Recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists. While hardy, it requires careful feeding and excellent water quality to thrive.

Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 75°F – 80°F (24°C – 27°C)
  • Salinity: 1.020 – 1.025 SG
  • pH: 8.1 – 8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8 – 12 dKH

Compact, cryptic, and captivating, the Marbled Scorpionfish is an excellent choice for aquarists seeking an unusual and visually striking ambush predator.

A waste
Color: White/Silver-Tone/Digital
If I could I would give it zero stars. It was running when I received it so who knows how long the battery has left. No instructions were included. The setup is impossible unless you’re into computerized “smart” crap. I looked up how to do that and it’s way too involved for a watch to tell me what the time is. I don’t want a personal dictator, I just wanted a watch I could wear and know what time it is. Too much hassle to return. It’s going in the trash. Total waste of time energy and money. Zero stars.

Favorite Watch
Color: Black/Silver-Tone/Digital, Color: Black/Silver-Tone/Digital
I have been using this same kind of watch for 10+ years. I like the belt like strap and the small size. I also appreciate how it has a light on it, the date, and the stop watch. I haven’t had any issues with the battery. These watches have held up well for me although I try to avoid getting them wet. The buttons are hard to press when you first get them but get a little easier to press over time. I still have issues remembering how to change the time and typically have to look up how. The silver parts on the front do wear out over time and turn copper colored. I wore one of these watches for around 5 years before buying a new one when the band which holds the excess space from the band broke. Attached is a picture of the watch that I wore for at least 5 years and a brand new one that I bought.

Purchased as a for a middle schooler who isn’t allowed any electronics at school during school hours. Helps keep her on task without breaking the smart device policies. Perfect “old school” way to work.
