In Brazil during the late 1800s and early 1900s, powerful landowners known as Coronéis exploited the vast north-eastern region, including the Sertão desert, leaving its inhabitants to suffer. Amidst this corruption and abuse, the Cangaceiros—bandits who violently opposed the status quo—emerged.
Cangaceiros is a strategic competitive game for 2 to 5 players, where each player leads a gang trying to survive in the hostile desert territories while being hunted by the Volantes, the state police trained to eliminate them. Each gang is led by a chief, chosen from 20 available, each with unique abilities and characteristics.
Effective management of your 7-card deck is crucial, as well as collecting resources, placing bandits to secure regions, attacking the Volantes, assaulting the prison in Recife, converting accumulated resources into fame, training your leader, and recruiting new members for your gang.
Players earn fame points by attacking the Volantes, training their leader to achieve their life goal, and retiring in glory. Fame can also be gained in various other ways throughout the game. At the end of the game, the player with the most fame points is declared the winner.
The different chiefs, initial setup of cards and resources, and randomly distributed events and life goals ensure that each game offers a unique and highly replayable experience.
