The AP Limited Editions Urushi Lacquer Art Fountain Pen in Black Nashiji is a singular work of lacquer art—designated a Piece Unique—whose quiet luminosity reveals itself with every turn in the light. The nashiji treatment, named for the speckled skin of the Asian pear, scatters fine metallic flecks beneath deep, piano-dark urushi, creating a restrained shimmer that reads as texture more than ornament. It is a contemplative object, crafted to be lived with and written with—art that happens to write beautifully.

Craftsmanship & Design

Nashiji is among the most cherished surfaces in traditional Japanese lacquerwork: infinitesimal metallic fragments are gently sprinkled into still-curing layers of urushi, then sealed and polished to a satin-smooth luster. The result is a field of understated light—never overtly glittering—whose depth varies subtly from section to section, a reminder that human hands guided every step. On this Black Nashiji example, the contrast between the ink-dark lacquer and the quiet constellation of flecks lends a calm, architectural presence.

Urushi, derived from the sap of the lacquer tree, cures into a resilient, tactilely warm surface that develops a quiet radiance over time. Applied in successive, carefully cured layers and finished by hand, it offers both visual depth and a pleasingly organic feel in the hand—qualities that reward daily use as much as occasional contemplation.

Writing Experience

A 14k gold nib brings the suppleness and nuance that enthusiasts seek, translating subtle pressure into line character while maintaining dependable smoothness. Offered in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, and Broad, it supports everything from compact annotation to expressive correspondence. The cartridge/converter system provides practical flexibility for bottled inks or travel-ready cartridges, making this lacquered instrument as functional as it is refined.

The balance and surface touch of urushi encourage an unhurried hand. Combined with the natural spring of 14k gold, the pen delivers a composed, confident line that flatters everyday scripts and more deliberate hands alike.

Collector Perspective

AP Limited Editions is known for commissioning urushi and maki-e artworks that honor classical technique while embracing contemporary restraint. The brand’s Piece Unique creations—each executed one at a time—carry a distinct appeal: not merely variations, but singular artworks whose individual character is set by the artist’s hand and the living nature of urushi itself. Black Nashiji, drawn from centuries of Japanese lacquer tradition, is a choice that privileges subtlety over spectacle and invites long-term appreciation.

For collectors, this combination—time-honored technique, one-of-one execution, and daily-writable ergonomics—places the pen at the intersection of objet d’art and dependable instrument. It is a piece that can anchor a focused urushi collection or serve as a discerning entrance into high craft.

Fine, dry glitter in a puff spray bottle
Color: Glint Rainbow
This works well if, and only if, you know exactly what it is and if it'll work for your application. This glitter comes with no adhesive or stickiness in it. It is not like a glitter stick, or glitter makeup. It is dry glitter in a spray bottle. The spray pattern is very narrow, so if you want to spray it onto a piece of paper or you body, it will show up in a clump. It does not have an airy spray pattern. To use this, you need to add some stickiness to the surface you want it to stick to first. Something like glue on paper or some sort of sticky thing on your skin that won't sink in. If regular lotion sinks in, the glitter will just fall off. So petroleum jelly or something that sits on top works best. Also, if you want it spread out instead of in little clumps as it comes out of the spray bottle, you'll have to move it around manually. On some level, to be entirely honest, I'm not sure this application method is better than loose glitter. With loose glitter, at least I can manually sprinkle it and not get a giant blob like with the spray. Also, some little bits get loose with the spray, and loose glitter in a house is just asking for forever glitter. I'm deducting one star simply because the spray delivery mechanism isn't very useful, and can actually be a liability. Unlike some spray glitters with propellant and adhesive that are more like spray paint and have a more spray paint application profile. This manual puff method just doesn't work well with glitter.

Dry glitter, not glue
Color: Glint Rainbow
This is dry glitter, not glitter spray. Will need glue for it to stick but it’s very pretty.

Fine holographic sparkle with smooth and even application
Color: Glint Rainbow
I tested this glitter powder several times over about two weeks while using it on my hair and along the cheek area for festival style makeup looks. The shimmer particles are very fine, which helps create a smooth reflective effect rather than chunky glitter. The applicator releases a light dusting of powder, which makes it easier to control how much product is applied. I found that building it gradually works best, starting with a light layer and adding more for a stronger sparkle effect. The holographic finish reflects different tones depending on the lighting, shifting slightly between soft rainbow colors under brighter light. It looks subtle indoors but becomes more noticeable and reflective in direct lighting or outdoor settings. During wear, the glitter stayed in place for several hours with minimal fallout when applied lightly. I noticed that applying it over slightly set makeup or hair helped it adhere better and reduced loose particles. With its fine texture, controllable application, and noticeable sparkle under different lighting, it delivers a versatile glitter effect for creative makeup looks. The quantity of the spray was nice and it was durable under the sun too.

Glitter Bomb
Color: Glint Rainbow
It gets ALL over the place and doesn’t stick all that well. Neat idea but it doesn’t work the way I would hope.
