ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

"Who said that in order to love you had to annul yourself and put aside your life projects? To love you must not give up yourself, that is the maxim."
Walter Riso

In a culture where unlimited loving giving has been overvalued, life as a couple has become the primary form of self-realization. An exaggerated sentimentality has caused the self-sacrifice involved in such self-denial to be ignored. However, love doesn't justify everything.

There is another way of understanding love: to love without destroying ourselves, to flee from absolutist idealization; It is possible to love without anxiety and without negotiating the vital principles that determine us. A mature love is one that integrates love for the other with self-love without conflict of interest.

Book for Churchill fans
Format: Hardcover
Not an introduction to Churchill but fills out a period of his life that is often overlooked. Some fascinating insights into people who visited Chartwell. I really enjoyed this book, but it's not for everyone.

An excellent addition to the library of books about the life of Churchill.
Format: Hardcover
Excellent story of Churchill's years in the wilderness, warning of the growing threat of Nazi Germany from 1932 to the early of the war. Thoroughly researched and well written, given the complexities of what was going on contemporaneously.

Just like the PBS series....
Format: Hardcover
This book is a step, or two, deeper into the 'wilderness years' than the PBS series by the same name. But frankly, the series, available on YouTube, is a better buy (it's free) for the money and quite entertaining due to its great casting with folks like Robert Hardy, Sian Phillips, and Eric Porter. But, if you're a reader, this book is worth the effort and cost.

A great book about a great estate and the great man who inhabited it.
Format: Kindle
Carter does a superb job of accurately recounting the history of Chartwell and the people and events that made it such a special place.
