Italian Model 1925 MVSN Fighting Knife (Poignard)-This is the style that was carried when El Duce made the march on Rome in the early 1920’s. It is quite distinctive. The steel fittings on the hilt shows moderate wear. The silver finish is mostly in place on the grip and pommel. The black wooden handle has a very detailed fascist bundle on both sides. The cross guard has lost its finish, has a coating of rust. It is distinctively marked with MVSN. The Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale or the MVSN was the voluntary militia for national security, or more commonly known as the Blackshirts. They were originally the paramilitary wing of the National Fascist Party and, after 1923, the all-volunteer militia of the Kingdom of Italy.  Ok, let’s go back to the dagger.  The back of the crossguard is marked “D 867”. The proper steel scabbard has lost some of its original finish and has a light coating of rust. This nicely matches the crossguard, so it gives it a vintage look overall. The four-pointed blade is in good condition considering the vintage of this piece. The blade does show some pitting. Scarce example.
