ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

In As Boiras, a town of High Aragon, the body of Emma Lenglet, daughter of a French senator, was found. The killer's modus operandi is similar to what the Butcher of the Valley did three decades before. Actually, it has been a month since Marzal Castán, the psychopath who hunted and bled to death six teenagers in the mid nineties, was released from prison to receive palliative care, and has now returned to the Pyrenees.

Sherif Kevin Girard, an agent specialized in serial killers, just arrived from France to cooperate with the Civil Guard, since they suspect the existence of a copycat, an admirer imitating those old crimes without stopping at just one victim.

On the other hand, almost no one is counting on what Alice Leclerc, the narrator of our story, can contribute to the investigation. She is Girard's wife and knows the original case better than anyone since, at thirteen years old, she witnessed what happened up close. Back then she was living with her mother and her stepfather, who ran a hotel in the neighborhood, and later poured her experience in a book that turned her into a celebrity... and a persona non grata in As Boiras.

Scholarly and Readable, Too
Format: Paperback
I read the first volume in this series (about the Great Depression), and now I'm in the midst of this one. Kennedy's very-lucid prose keeps the reader moving along, and of course, the sweep of the story he's telling is nearly-irresistible. But in lamer hands, the prose might well have bogged down in turgidity--not so in this case!

Good but not as good
Format: Kindle
Freedom From Fear #1 was one of the most interesting and informational books I've ever read. Part Two was interesting but I did not learn much more about the war than I had known before other than the fact that, while Japan lost the war, Anglo-Saxons are no longer in control in the Far East. I somewhat disagree with his ending ideas about the "good" war, that it wasn't so "good" after all in it's outcome. However, those who fought in it and their families would probably disagree.
