About This Piece
A set of eight faïence dessert plates and two compotes by Émile Gallé of Nancy, France, c. 1900. Decorated in blue with reticulated edges and a heraldic crest in the centre — a shield bearing the Latin motto Non Inultus Premor ("I cannot be touched with impunity"). Several plates and one compote are marked.
Gallé is best known for his cameo glass, and his pottery is considerably rarer and less well known — making a complete ten-piece set of particular importance. In 1874 he oversaw the Saint-Clément pottery before later moving production to Nancy.
