“Dad’s been asking where all that old Barossa tawny I’ve been stashing away has gone. Truth is, a fair bit’s floated off over the years—into the air, into the clouds. VOLKEN is what’s left. A rare drop, worth the wait.”

Fortified wines run deep in the Barossa. They helped put the region on the map—kept it going when times were tough—and they’ve stuck around for good reason. At Teusner, we’ve always had a soft spot for the old stuff. Tawnies that carry the weight of time and show what patience (and a decent barrel or two) can do.

We’ve called this one Volken—a nod to the old Barossa Deutsch where the v’s and w’s get a bit loose. The German word for cloud is Wolken, but around here, it sounds a lot like Volken. It just felt right. A fair chunk of this wine’s vanished into the air over the years anyway... call it the cost of ageing well.

What’s left is a Rare Tawny with plenty of depth and character. It pours a deep amber in the glass, with a hint of rusty red on the rim. On the nose, you’ll find roasted nuts, orange peel, dried fig and old touches of well-seasoned oak – in fact if someone mentioned Nanna’s famous Christmas cake I wouldn’t be offended in the slightest. The palate’s rich and rolling—sticky to start, but it finishes dry and tidy, with enough grip to keep things interesting. Notes of treacle, spice and mocha come and go. It’s mellow. Honest. Warming.

This is a wine for those who’ve been around long enough to remember when fortifieds ruled the Barossa… and for those just discovering why they still matter.

Best enjoyed slowly, with good company—and maybe a story or two.

Tough, Fun, and Actually Lasts! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Style: Black chew toys for dogs, Style: Black chew toys for dogs
I’m seriously impressed with the PUPTILY dog toys for aggressive chewers! My dog usually destroys toys within minutes, but these have held up surprisingly well. They’re durable, entertaining, and keep my pup busy for a long time without falling apart. The material feels strong and high quality, and I love that the toys help satisfy my dog’s chewing instincts while also helping with boredom. My dog gets so excited every time I bring them out. Definitely one of the best chew toy purchases I’ve made, and I would absolutely recommend them to other dog owners with heavy chewers! Also, for some reason my dogs like the black one much better than the more expensive tan ones.

Durable
Style: Black chew toys for dogs
My hound dog seems to like hers. She greets me at the door every day with it in her mouth and she hasn’t been able to tear it up or get any little pieces in her mouth when she nib nibs on the edges. It doesn’t have a smell. It is hard. It seems safe I guess since they can’t pick it up with their paws and pop each other over the head with it but if you have an intruder it would be great to have in hand.

Surprisingly Tough Without Being Too Hard
Style: Black chew toys for dogs
The hardness on this bone is right in the sweet spot for aggressive chewers. It’s firm and durable enough that my dog hasn’t been able to tear chunks off or destroy it quickly, but it’s not rock-hard to the point where I’d worry about teeth damage. My dog usually goes through most toys pretty fast, and this one has held up really well. After extended chewing sessions, it only shows minor wear instead of deep cracks or breakage. It keeps his attention without splintering or becoming unsafe. If you’re looking for a bone that can handle strong jaws while still being safe for aggressive chewers, this one strikes a good balance and has been a solid option so far.
