PETRUS CURTENIUS Petrus Curtenius werd in 1716 in Amsterdam geboren. Hij bezocht de Latijnse school, en het Atheneum in zijn geboortestad. Hij studeerde theologie in Leiden en werd kandidaat in 1739. Durgerdam begeerde hem als leraar en zo deed hij in hetzelfde jaar intrede in zijn eerste gemeente. Reeds in 1741 vertrok hij naar Deventer en mocht daar met zegen arbeiden. De gemeente van Gouda beriep hem, welk beroep hij aannam en zo ging hij in 1746 uit Overijssel naar Holland. In 1754 werd hij benoemd als hoogleraar aan het Atheneum in zijn geboortestad, welke benoeming hij aanvaardde. Het duurde niet lang of ook de kerkelijke gemeente begeerde hem als leraar en zo vestigde hij zich voorgoed in Amsterdam, totdat de Koning van de kerk hem in 1789 opnam in Zijn heerlijkheid.
