In tegenstelling tot andere soorten , waarbij de scheringdraden na elke rij geknoopte draden worden afgeknipt, blijven de scheringdraden bij Somak Kelim zichtbaar aan de achterkant van het tapijt. Typische patronen op Somak Kelim- zijn geometrische vormen, bloemen, ranken en andere abstracte ontwerpen.
