In Het laatste elftal verweeft Barbi Marković, in een virtuoos spel met de taal van sportcommentators, op geheel eigen wijze herinneringen aan haar afwezige vader en aan een mythisch Joegoslavië, dat zelfs met het naderende onheil nog gelooft dat voetbal het verschil kan maken.
