Deze Norbertijner abdij met haar uitgestrekte gebouwencomplex behoorde tot de voornaamste geestelijke instellingen van de noordelijke Nederlanden. Zij ontleende haar belang niet alleen aan de paterniteit over haar zes dochterstichtingen, aan de patronaatsrechten die zij in de loop der tijden verwierf en aan de maatschappelijke invloed van haar abten, maar vooral aan haar uitgestrekte goederenbezit, dat duizenden morgens landbouwgrond besloeg. Dit abdijdomein staat centraal in de studie van Van Bavel. Aanvankelijk breidde het domein zich uit door schenkingen van de familie Van Cuijk, die de abdij gesticht had, en later ook van leden van het Hollandse gravenhuis. Doordat de Van Cuijks hun machtspositie kort na 1129 verloren, was de abdij gedwongen een zelfstandige positie in te nemen. De rechten op de abdij waren verdeeld over een groot aantal instanties en werden ingeperkt door allerlei ingebouwde zekerheden. Zo kon Mariënweerd tamelijk autonoom functioneren zonder over duidelijke exempties of voorrechten te beschikken. Toen de omvang van de schenkingen afnam, wist Mariënweerd haar domein toch nog uit te breiden door vanaf 1305 een aankoopgolf van buitengewone proporties in gang te zetten. De aankopen werden bekostigd met de hoge opbrengst van de verpachte abdijgoederen. De verworven grond was vrijwel altijd al in cultuur gebracht. Het beeld dat Norbertijnen zich bezighielden met (eigenhandige) ontginning van woeste gronden, is onjuist. De bezitsuitbreiding kwam rond 1350 abrupt tot stilstand. De financiële problemen waren zo groot, dat een deel van het bezit verkocht moest worden. Desondanks bleef een imposant domein over. Bij de uitbating daarvan bleven de uithoven een belangrijke rol spelen. Dankzij de uitgebreide vijfitende- en zestiende-eeuwse pachtadministratie die overgeleverd is, konden het verloop van de nominale pachtprijzen, de diverse regelingen en de werkelijke pachtbetalingen gereconstrueerd worden. Andere inkomsten uit het goederenbezit vormden de tienden en de opbrengsten van het agrarische bedrijf van de abdij. Goederenverwerving en goederenbeheer worden door Van Bavel bestudeerd tegen de achtergrond van de geografische omgeving, de relaties tussen de abdij en diverse families, de religieuze factoren binnen de Norbertijner orde, de lotgevallen van de abdij en vooral de sociaal-economische ontwikkelingen. Zo wordt de abdij op economisch vlak in kaart gebracht en krijgt de lezer inzicht in haar functioneren als grootgrondbezitter.Shipping Notes

Solid Omegaverse!

Overall great story solid omegaverse. I love how they’re fighting their instincts. Lots of spice, TONS of slick and heated moments.
**Slight spoiler sort of**
I was nervous reading this for pretty much one reason and that was the other “O” listed. I knew it wasn’t another female and I would have been happy/fine if it was but the concern lay in not knowing or being guaranteed the smexual preferences of our three alphas so realistically this gave me anxiety on how the dynamic would work. Anyone who has read omegaverse knows there’s usually one omega in each pack. My fear was the male omega connecting only with the female omega and that dynamic doesn’t wholly work for me. To me, the male omega needs the alphas as well so I was relieved with how this turned out.

Good plot but definitely slow burn

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5|🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (not a ton of spice scenes for an Omegaverse)
The plot, character development, scene progression, and action throughout the story was done really well. I did wish there was better pacing for the spice. I felt like the big spice was really rushed. During some scenes the story was a little hard to follow. I think some parts could’ve been cut. Overall I would read more from this author! 💖

omg loved the story

I’ve been in a reading slump DNFing so many books and finally found a story to keep me captivated… now with that though there were still some parts that were a bit of a struggle like Tatums struggle with the past trauma she dragged that on for ever I get it pasts are hard to overcome sometimes. But honestly it was easy to get over it falling in love with all these little psychos 🤣🤣🤣 absolutely loved Kodi’s obsession with getting Easton even though he doesn’t know him but smells brownies everywhere and missing the mark it was hysterical.

Omegaverse with rival families.

Tatum is trying to raise enough money to treat her omega mother who has fallen catatonic due to the death of her mate. To make the money she needs she agrees to work at a gentleman's club scantily dressed. There she meets the twin Hayes brothers, Declan and Kodiak, what she doesn't know is that their younger half brother is the high school sweetheart that ghosted her after helping with her first heat. Tatum also meets Easton, the mysterious male omega that pops into her life but she finds herself strongly attracted to.
I enjoyed all the characters, even those that were not major characters, the plot was good, the storyline was well done. I would recommend this book if you liked Omegaverse stories, mafia storylines, and good romance with why choose.

Loved it!

Who doesn’t love morally grey men obsessed with their omega who isn’t afraid to call them out on their unacceptable behavior and make them grovel?
Tatum really is a survivor through and through. She is willing to do anything to get her mother the help she needs, even deal with the man her broke her heart.
If you love brothers playing jokes, crazy stabby omegas and rich men being told no, you will enjoy this book. Great spice and great ending.
