In Georgië kruisten de wegen van de ervaren wijnmakers Vano Shiukashvili en Thierry Fontannaz. De Zwitserse Thierry, bekend als een 'vliegende wijnmaker', raakte gefascineerd door de eeuwenoude Georgische wijntechnieken, in het bijzonder de qvevri-fermentatie. Vano Shiukashvili, een bekwame wijnmaker uit Kakheti – de grootste en meest gerenommeerde wijnregio van Georgië – besloot zijn expertise te delen. Geïnspireerd door de prachtige saperavi-wijngaarden werkten ze samen aan Taoba, een project waar traditie en innovatie samenkomen door gedeeltelijke rijping in qvevri's en geselecteerde eiken vaten.

Georgië wordt beschouwd als het oudste wijnproducerende land ter wereld, waar al 8.000 jaar geleden wijn werd gemaakt, zoals blijkt uit archeologische vondsten uit 2015. Kakheti, gelegen in het oosten van het land op ongeveer 1,5 uur rijden van de hoofdstad Tbilisi, is het belangrijkste wijngebied van het land. Hier groeien de wijnstokken van Taoba, die volledig uit saperavi bestaan en meer dan 30 jaar oud zijn, op een bodem van zwarte leisteen. Het klimaat wordt beïnvloed door het Kaukasusgebergte, dat meestal de regen tegenhoudt en zorgt voor koele nachten. De druiven worden met de hand geoogst, van eind september tot begin november, afhankelijk van hun rijpheid.

Een deel van de druiven wordt ontsteeld en ondergaat een schilweking in roestvrijstalen tanks, waar ook de alcoholische gisting plaatsvindt. Het andere deel wordt met tros en al in qvevri's geplaatst, eivormige aardewerken amfora's die in Georgië traditioneel worden gebruikt voor gisting en rijping van wijn – de oudste bekende methode van wijnmaken. Na zes weken alcoholische vergisting en schilweking in de roestvrijstalen tanks, wordt de wijn geperst en een deel ervan overgeheveld naar houten vaten van verschillende groottes: tweede- en derdejaars Amerikaans eiken van 225 liter en vaten van 5.000 liter. Ondertussen rijpen de druiven in de qvevri's door tot het volgende voorjaar, waarna de wijn wordt geperst en overgebracht naar een schone qvevri voor verdere rijping. De uiteindelijke wijn is een blend van 100% saperavi, gerijpt in roestvrijstalen tanks, qvevri's, 5.000-liter vaten en 225-liter Amerikaanse eiken vaten.

Fantastic Foam and Spectacular Steamer
Best electric steamer/frother evvveerrrrr! I've had several froth/steamers over the years and this is the BEST one by far. It's compact, quiet, and makes thick gorgeous foam. My coffees, lattes, etc. now look like fancy five star restaurant quality works of art! I've become a mini barista as this makes my morning coffee routine an indulgence. Bonus is that you get two mixer pieces, the second one easily stores under the base. I use oat and almond milks primarily, and I get great results with thick foam! Love this little froth/steamer!!

Failed Shortly After Purchase and Required Too Much Effort to Resolve
This product was purchased as a holiday gift for my spouse. Out of the box the product made a load mechanical noise (similar to a baseball card in bicycle spokes) – but it produced a nice heated frothed milk. Less than 3 months after first using the frother, it completely stopped frothing. The heating unit continued to work but the spinning disk did not move. I contacted the seller and within 48 hours they requested a video of proof that the frother was no longer working. I provided the requested video 6 hours after receipt of seller's request. Since then, I have not received any communications, and my follow up emails receive NO RESPONSE. Amazon should consider pulling this product and seller from their website. UPDATE: After multiple follow-up contacts over a month's time, manufacturer eventually issued a full refund.

Total game changer
Great frother. Nice capacity for a lot of foam. I've had it for a couple months. It's started out pretty quiet for about a month but I've noticed that the motor seems to be a little louder than usual but still a low sound. Not a big deal though. It works great. Just wanted to mention that the quality of milk matters. For example, I shop at Aldi and I get their oat milk. It doesn't froth as good as a higher quality name brand oat milk.
