Een keramiek deelatelier biedt keramiekliefhebbers een uitstekende kans om vaardigheden te ontwikkelen, in eigen tempo te werken, professionele apparatuur te gebruiken en contact te leggen met andere klei-enthousiastelingen. Je hebt toegang tot draaischijven, werktafels en opbergplanken.

Glazuren: Je kunt deze sessie ook gebruiken om je werkstukken te glazuren. Het atelier biedt transparant, wit, blauw, strontium paars en strontium groen glazuur aan voor €3 per klein tot middelgroot potje (maximaal 10 cm hoog). Je mag ook je eigen glazuren meenemen, maar overleg dit graag eerst met de docent voordat je ze aanbrengt.


1 tijdslot duurt 3 uur

Rooster: De gedeelde studio is geopend tijdens de volgende tijdsloten. Neem contact op via WhatsApp 0617059243 om een afspraak te maken.

Materiaalkosten:

  • Witte steengoedklei 10 kg: 15 euro
  • Gerecyclede klei 5 kg: 8 euro

Stookkosten (voor stukken gemaakt in het atelier):

  • Biscuitstook: 8 euro/kilo
  • Glazuurstook: 8 euro/kilo

Stookkosten (voor stukken niet gemaakt in het atelier):

  • Biscuitstook: 15 euro/kilo
  • Glazuurstook: 15 euro/kilo

Ateliervoorzieningen:

  • Draaischijven

  • Gereedschap en apparatuur
  • Opslagruimte - We kunnen je gedraaide werk tot 2 weken in de speciale vochtige kist bewaren, zolang het nog leerhard is. Na 2 weken worden de stukken eruit gehaald en op de plank gezet. 
  • Vanwege de beperkte ruimte in het atelier vragen we je vriendelijk om binnen twee maanden verder te werken aan je stukken. Stukken waar na die periode niet meer aan is gewerkt, kunnen we helaas niet bewaren.

Vereisten:

  • Lidmaatschap (gratis registratie en aanmaken account)
  • Basiskennis keramiek (het deelatelier wordt begeleid, maar er wordt geen les gegeven)
  • Respecteer de atelieretiquette
  • Neem alsjeblieft je eigen schort mee.
  • Ruim op na gebruik: Reserveer alstublieft 10 minuten voor het einde van de studio om schoon te maken. Maak alle draaischijven en gereedschap grondig schoon. Berg alles op de juiste plek op en laat de werkplek netjes achter voor de volgende gebruiker.

Schedule: Shared studio sessions run during the following timeslots. Please contact WhatsApp at 0617059243 to make an appointment. 

  • Thursday 10:00–13:00 
  • Friday 14:00–17:00 and 19:00–22:00

Glazing: You can also use this session to glaze your pieces. The studio offers transparent, white, blue, strontium purple, and strontium green glazes for €3 per small to medium pot (up to 10 cm in height). You are also welcome to bring your own glazes, but please consult the instructor before applying them.You will have access to throwing machines, workbenches, and storage shelves.

Materials cost:
White stoneware clay 10 kg: 15 euros
Recycled clay 5 kg: 8 euros

Firing (Pieces made in the studio):
Bisque firing: 8 euros/kilo
Glaze firing: 8 euros/kilo

Firing (pieces not made in the studio):
Bisque firing: 15 euros/kilo
Glaze firing: 15 euros/kilo

Studio Amenities:

  • Storage spaces - We can keep your thrown pieces at the leather-hard stage for up to 2 weeks in the special moisture box. After 2 weeks, the pieces will be taken out and placed on the shelf.
  • Due to limited space in the studio, we kindly ask that you continue working on your pieces within two months. Unfortunately, pieces that remain untouched after this period will not be saved.

Studios requirement:

  • Membership (free registration and creation of a membership account)
  • Basic course completion (the shared studio is supervised by our staff, but there is no teaching in the shared studio)
  • Respect for studio etiquette.
  • Please bring your own apron and towel.
  • Clean up after yourself: Please reserve 10 minutes before the end of the studio to clean. Clean all pottery wheels and tools thoroughly after each use. Return every tool to its designated storage box, ensuring the workspace is left tidy and ready for the next user.

The Real Arms Race
Format: Kindle
I am a life-long Democrat, supposed to bristle at the very idea of military spending. Brose's book convinced me the problem is not how much we spend, but what we're spending it on. "Kill chain" is military-speak for the three phases of combat -- figuring out what's going on, deciding what to do about it, and taking effective action. Brose spells out how technology changed all three phases while the Defense Department and its minders in Congress weren't paying attention. The result has been to significantly undermine our military preparedness and, more importantly, the ultimate goal of deterrence. For all the money we're spending, Brose shows how it's mostly on the wrong things, i.e., large, expensive platforms that are only incremental improvements over prior systems designed for different times. He shows how the military-industrial complex, abetted by a Congress invested in the status quo, is arming our military with technology inferior to what you'd find in a modern automobile. The development of the Internet may have been kick-started by the defense department back in the 1960s, but the information revolution that followed largely left the U.S. military behind. Meanwhile, potential adversaries are compensating for relatively lower defense budgets by exploiting emerging technologies that could change the character of war, raising multiple ethical, geo-political, and governance issues. The Kill Chain is compelling, scary, and must-reading for our political leaders and all intelligent voters.

Well written and thought-out approach to change DoD acquisition
Format: Hardcover
I'm a Navy acquisition manager and former Navy officer. I very strongly recommend this book as required reading for Pentagon (especially flag officers and SESs), congressional staffs, defense contractors and those who would be defense contractors, Silicon Valley companies, and everyone who cares about the future of the United States. The author expertly characterizes the current world situation and the issues with DoD acquisition practices. He is not brutal about it, but fair. He explains the background and history behind how we got to where we are, and identifies a path forward. I believe that following the approach recommended is very hard, but very worth while. The author worked for Senator McCain for almost ten years, and it is clear that this book benefits from his experience. My only gripe (and it is a minor one) is that very occasionally the author allows his feelings about Trump to manifest in a negative way. This is often justified, but it shouldn't be so one-sided. Nevertheless, this book is must-read, and deserves five stars.
