Van oudsher vervullen bomen overal ter wereld een functie in het leven van mensen op het gebied van welzijn zingeving en levensvragen. Hun takken reiken naar de hemel en hun wortels zijn verankerd in de aarde. Ze geleiden niet alleen een energiesurplus van beide kanten maar resoneren ook met deze stromingen. Zo vormen ze een stabiele verbinding tussen de hemel en de aarde en ondersteunen ze onze veel minder stabiele verticale levenswijze op een rustige gelijkmatige manier.
De eigenschappen van bomen zijn sinds de steentijd niet veranderd de behoeften en noden van de mensen wel. Maja Kooistra doet al bijna haar hele leven onderzoek naar de eigenschappen van bomen en heilige bomen hebben haar speciale aandacht. Deze kwamen al voor in de middensteentijd en bestaan nog steeds. Ze vervullen een rol in animistische en sjamanistische religies bij de Kelten en de Germanen maar ook in grote wereldgodsdiensten zoals het hindoeïsme en boeddhisme. Mensen hebben blijkbaar altijd specifieke ervaringen bij dergelijke bomen gehad. Kooistra ging na welke ervaringen dat zijn en hoe dergelijke krachtbomen ontstaan. Ze koppelde oude kennis over het gebruik van het landschap aan hedendaagse elementaire fysica. Dit leidde tot nieuwe inzichten over de functie van boomsoorten en verklaarde veel over het gebruik van voormalige krachtplaatsen zoals hunebedden en steencirkels waarvoor tot nu toe geen sluitende verklaring is. In dit boek worden zo’n vijftig voorbeelden gegeven. Ze laten ons zien hoeveel mogelijkheden er zijn om van hun krachten gebruik te maken.
