Being a Hypancistrus, the Zebra Pleco will appreciate high protein in their diet and clean, oxygenated water so ample surface agitation and water changes are recommended for providing long term care for these fish. Spawning will occur with males trapping females in caves until eggs are released, but this activity only occurs in sexually mature specimens that are of at least 2 years of age.
