Half Kantha Dohar Quilt - Copper Rain / Blue Iris - One of a KindWorked entirely by hand, this quilt is stitched through layers using rows of running stitch drawn across the full surface the defining mark of the kantha tradition. The front is an upcycled underprint in copper rain a warm sandy peach and golden amber ground with a fine all over botanical print in muted blue, teal and sage green, delicate leaves and botanical sprigs layered densely across the surface through 8 to 12 rounds of hand woodblock printing
Worked entirely by hand, this quilt is stitched through layers using rows of running stitch drawn across the full surface - the defining mark of the kantha tradition. The front is an upcycled underprint in copper rain - a warm sandy peach and golden amber ground with a fine all-over botanical print in muted blue, teal and sage green, delicate leaves and botanical sprigs layered densely across the surface through 8 to 12 rounds of hand woodblock printing across a month of production. A distinct vertical panel runs head to foot in a warmer copper-amber tone, the same botanical motifs shifting in warmth and depth as the layers build and thin. Where the printings overlap, the teal deepens; where they thin, the warm copper ground glows through. No two printings land the same way twice; this piece is entirely unrepeatable. Edition of one. The edges are finished with a fine hand blanket stitch - small, precise, and quietly present.
The reverse is a wide-width blue iris linen-cotton blend - deep, inky and moody - with the kantha running stitch visible on both sides, tracing the same quiet rhythm across the cloth.
