The mother shells of Japanese Akoya pearls are mainly produced in Agoya, Japan and currently mainly in Mie, Kumamoto and Ehime prefectures.
Akoya pearls have been referred to as "Japanese pearls" since ancient times.Ā Ā They grow in bays with a comfortable temperature and calm waves.Ā Ā Most of them are round in shape.Ā Ā The diameter of each bead ranges from the smallest 2mm to the largest 10mm.Ā Ā Over 8.5mm is relatively rare.
