The ochres of Bourgogne are different from the ochres of the Luberon in their sedimentary matrix: While Luberon iron oxides tend to be suspended in Kaolinite, the oxides in the North of France are suspended in Limestone, which is easier to smelt into metallic iron, and gives Puisaye Hematite its darker brown hue.
