Background - What is infection prevention and control program?
Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPC) is a program that coordinates facility-wide infection surveillance, prevention and control. Qualified Infection Prevention and Control Nurses coordinate the program and provide regular reports to the Infection Control Executive sponsor and the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and all other relevant stakeholders.
Infection Prevention and Control Services' primary function is to prevent residents, patients, staff, and visitors from getting healthcare-associated infections. They also manage infection when it occurs using evidence-based strategies.
Infection Preventionists work with all stakeholders and conduct research to update and develop guidelines that are consistent with best practice.
* Monitoring compliance with standard and transmission-based precautions.
* Review and treatment of pertinent pathology results, including wound infections, multi-resistant organisms, and clostridium difficile infection.
Hand hygiene is the best strategy to reduce the chance of infection. The hand hygiene program is supported by all levels of organisational management.
